As Associate General Counsel at Nasdaq, you will be accountable for providing strategic legal counsel and regulatory guidance across our global capital markets businesses. You will represent Nasdaq in complex regulatory and commercial matters, ensuring compliance with evolving legal requirements while enabling business innovation and growth.
You'll thrive in this position if you bring executive presence, deep expertise in financial services regulation, and the ability to influence stakeholders across diverse business units and jurisdictions. You will be part of a global team of 200+ legal, compliance, surveillance, and regulatory professionals located across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
Key Responsibilities
Define and execute legal strategy for assigned business units, ensuring alignment with Nasdaq's regulatory framework and global objectives.
Represent Nasdaq independently in regulatory matters, commercial negotiations, and agency interactions, strengthening the company's legal position.
Provide authoritative legal counsel to senior leadership on federal regulations, company policies, and cross-border legal matters.
Lead the drafting of regulatory filings, board resolutions, and contracts that support strategic business initiatives.
Evaluate and manage investigations and litigation matters, exercising sound judgment and risk management.
Champion compliance excellence and operational discipline across functions, balancing legal rigor with business pragmatism.
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree; admission to the bar required (location-dependent).
8+ years of legal experience, with significant exposure to financial services and federal regulation.
Demonstrated success in advising senior stakeholders and representing organizations in complex regulatory environments.
Strong executive presence with the ability to influence decisions and represent Nasdaq externally at senior levels.
Deep understanding of capital markets, exchanges, or financial services regulatory frameworks.
Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively across global teams and cultures.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience with equities, options, or exchange-traded products (ETPs).
Familiarity with federal agency rulemaking processes and cross-border regulatory coordination.
Prior experience serving in senior legal roles at exchanges, broker-dealers, or regulated financial institutions.
