The Position
The Associate Director for APJK Trade Compliance and APJK Logistics is responsible for developing, implementing, and driving Organon’s end-to-end trade compliance program, including overseeing import and export trade activities in the APJK market.
This role supports several AP import and export sites, along with representing the region in the Global Trade Compliance team. The Incumbent is accountable for creating awareness to internal stakeholders on new regulations and programs which may impact import and export activities in the region.
In addition to the Trade compliance responsibilities, the person is responsible for ensuring the efficient transportation of Organon products, shipped into, out of and within the Asia Pacific, Japan and Korea Region while meeting service requirements, regulatory standards and operational targets. The individual initiates and/or lead regional projects related to optimizing logistics operations in APJK.
This role is expected to actively manage the regional freight budget and drive continuous improvement to achieve annual savings target related to Transportation.
The individual will be recognized as the primary Center of Excellence (COE) for Transportation, coordinating strategic logistics initiatives for existing / new products, as well as the day-to-day contact for Regional Transportation Operations.
This individual will maintain KPI’s for Regional Transportation Providers and initiate improvement projects where needed to address KPI shortcomings, or to foster a continuous improvement mentality with the providers.
Responsibilities
Lead the APJK Trade Compliance activities with business processes that ensure compliant import or export of goods.
Ensure cost effective and compliant transportation route design for all applicable import, export, and local distribution for existing products, new launches, legal entity integration, network change, BD ventures etc.
Partner with global freight forwarders and customs brokers to measure performance and drive improvements.
Identify logistics risks including but not limited to cargo security, quality assurance, and develop mitigation plans.
Identify, and implement duty optimization programs in the region.
Oversees the management of regional trade compliance operation, including embargoes, due diligence, denied parties screening, licensing determination, license application submission and tracking, proper item classification and thorough trade related corrective action preventive action (CAPA).
Ensure compliance with all applicable government agencies and regulations for existing products, new launch, legal entity integration, network change, etc.
Work with Organon APKJ countries' supply chain teams to develop customs brokerage strategy, partner with global freight forwarders and customs brokers to measure customs brokerage performance and drive improvement.
Keep abreast of internal/external best practices and programs including cargo security that may impact business and communicate these to stakeholders to take appropriate actions or make decisions.
Standardize regional Freight Forwarder MBR process and as appropriate lead the ones with key partners
Transportation cost budgeting (including FG and as appropriate, Bulk) and management.
Design and customize on improvements for trade compliance policies, operating procedures, and internal controls for the region.
Be active in the role of consultancy and interaction with Organon Global Trade Compliance, regional counterparts and markets in discussion and sharing of best practices in operations. Identify and drive process improvement initiatives, mitigate trade compliance risk, create and implement automated workflow and solution.
Continually monitor and analyze the evolving Asia Pacific trade laws and regulations applicable to Organon, and their impact on regional strategy and operations. Keep abreast of new regulations and programs that may impact business and communicate these to stakeholders to take appropriate actions or make decisions.
Required Education, Experience and Skills
BS/BA in Supply Chain, Engineering, science, business, logistics, international trade, or related area of study.
10+ years of trade compliance, Customs, and/or other agency experience.
Licensed Customs Broker or experience with International Customs and World Trade Organization
Licensed Customs Broker or experience with International Customs and World Trade Organization
ERP environment experience (SAP, Oracle, SaS, etc.)
SAP GTS environment experience
Familiarity with export order completion (including licensing and other specific governmental reliance) in AP.
Prior external relationship management experience (or similar experience via a third-party relationship) and understanding of Import and Export regulations.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills and a demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve problems and coach others on problem solving.
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Excellent performance in the areas of attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-up.
Demonstrated exceptional judgment and a genuine willingness/desire to develop successful business relationships with customers and Organon Regulatory partners.
Pharmaceutical or healthcare industry experience
Total Quality Management or ISO certification is a plus
Preferential trade programs management experience
