About the Role

It is the mission of Group Internal Audit (GIA) at AIA to provide independent, objective assurance and advisory activity, designed to add value and support the achievement of the AIA Group’s objectives and strategies.

This role will be responsible for:
• the execution and delivery of audit assignments relating to all Group functions at AIA; and
• providing appropriate business-oriented recommendations to management.

The role is required to advocate innovation and efficiency in line with broader AIA and GIA strategy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Execute and deliver audit assignments in the AIA Group Functions annual audit plan. Lead and/or execute engagement planning and scoping activities, working closely with senior management leaders.
  • Identify key risks for each AIA Group function considering the relevant strategies and business environment.
  • Lead and/or execute all phases of audits, supervising other team members where appropriate.
  • Review and/or draft audit reports and lead discussion of issues and remedial action plans with the appropriate levels of management. Facilitate issuance of audit reports to management.
  • Follow up outstanding audit issues and monitor timely completion of agreed remedial actions by management.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of AIA Group structure and functional responsibility. Assess control efficiency and effectiveness and alignment with AIA strategy and objectives.
  • Conduct and coordinate group-wide reviews, including but not limited to adequacy and effectiveness reviews of internal control environment and risk management in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Ensure that the working papers, draft audit reports and other deliverables meet internal standards and assignments are completed within budgeted time.
  • Support the development of the team through coaching, training and providing timely feedback to more junior team members where appropriate.
  • Liaise with the control community and other members of the company to contribute to the implementation of an adequate and effective system of internal controls.
  • Develop rapport with senior management of Group functions through regular communication of changes in business operations, emerging risks and potential issues.
  • Constructively challenge and provide professional advice and insights to management to enable informed management decisions.
  • Work closely with other control and monitoring functions (e.g., Finance, Risk Management, Compliance, Security, Legal, and External Auditors) to promote integrated risk management activities.
  • Advocate and influence the highest standards of ethics, discipline, and professionalism within the organisation.
  • Promote innovation and new ways of working using available tools. Demonstrate commitment to AIA and GIA’s strategic vision, be a self-starter and promote project ownership and responsibility for actions.
  • Take the initiative in improving self through classroom and on-the-job training.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties periodically assigned by the line manager, the Regional Director of Internal Audit and/or the Group Head of Internal Audit.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s / master’s degree in accounting or business studies; CPA, CIA or equivalent.
  • Minimum 12 years’ working experience in insurance, financial or a related industry with large multinational organisations. Audit or risk experience essential, preferably including Big 4 work experience.
  • Thorough understanding of life insurance operations, industry practices and legislative/regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge in insurance distribution, financial risk management, finance operations and operational risk management is an advantage.
  • Experience of working in Asian life insurance industry preferred.
  • Supervisory working experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communicator. Proficiency in verbal and written English is a must. Ability to communicate in Chinese is an advantage.
  • Good influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Team player.
