RBC

Associate Director, AI Model Execution, AI Innovation-X

TORONTO, Ontario, Canada Full time

Job Description

As an Associate Director, you will drive the evolution of AI at RBC, transitioning from static models to Autonomous Agentic Workflows. You will orchestrate systems where AI agents collaborate to solve complex financial problems, utilizing LangGraph, Claude Agent Skills, and MCP. This role requires a high-level blend of full-stack engineering (React/FastAPI), Kubernetes deployment, and advanced model training (Fine-tuning/RL).

What Will You Do?

  • Agentic Orchestration: Architect multi-agent stateful workflows using LangGraph or equivalent frameworks to automate complex banking processes.
  • Advanced Tooling: Implement Claude Agentic Skills and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to enable secure agent interaction with RBC’s internal financial tools.
  • AI (Human-in-the-Loop): Design "Human-in-the-loop" (HITL) patterns via React/TypeScript interfaces to ensure high-stakes financial decisions remain governed.
  • Model Optimization: Lead LLM Fine-tuning (PEFT/LoRA) and Reinforcement Learning (RLHF) initiatives to specialize models for financial domain accuracy.
  • Full-Stack & DevOps: Oversee the development of FastAPI (Pydantic) backends and manage their lifecycle on Kubernetes (K8s) clusters.
  • Strategic Leadership: Mentor junior developers and align AI agent roadmaps with RBC’s broader Enterprise AI Strategy.

What Do You Need to Succeed?

Academic Requirements (Mandatory):

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or a related quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Engineering). A Master’s degree or PhD is strongly preferred.

Must-Have Experience:

  • Agentic Frameworks: Hands-on experience building cyclic agent workflows using LangGraph, or equivalent agent framework.
  • Model Expertise: Deep understanding of the Claude ecosystem, Tool Use/Function Calling, Agent Skills and MCP implementation.
  • Technical Stack: Mastery of Python (FastAPI/Pydantic), Backend API design(RESTful), React (TypeScript), and deploying containerized applications to Kubernetes.
  • Training: Experience in fine-tuning LLMs and implementing RLHF/RLAIF pipelines.
  • Seniority: 3+ years of professional engineering experience with a focus on AI/ML delivery.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Finance Background: Professional experience in Capital Markets, Wealth Management, or Risk Management.
  • Cloud: Proficiency in Azure (AKS), Google Cloud(GCP) or AWS (EKS) within regulated environments.

What’s in it for You?

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role at the intersection of cutting-edge AI engineering and risk management. You will shape how GRM adopts agentic AI — defining the methodologies, building the systems, and developing the people. You will work alongside a collaborative team of AI innovators, risk professionals, and technology partners, with the mandate to drive meaningful and responsible AI transformation at scale.
