Job Summary: The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Southern District of Georgia is seeking applications from experienced attorneys or those who will be an active member of a bar association prior to entry on duty to fill an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) vacancy within the Criminal Division in the Augusta, Georgia branch office. This is an open announcement that will remain open until filled or 5/22/2026. Qualified applicants will be referred to selecting officials at 1-week intervals.

Major Duties:

• AUSAs in the Criminal Division are responsible for the prosecution of a variety of crimes under federal law including but not limited to violent crime, fraud, public corruption, illegal immigration, possession of child pornography, human trafficking, drug violations, firearms violations, terrorism, and asset forfeiture.The qualified applicant will be expected to (a) lead federal law enforcement agents in structuring and executing criminal investigative strategies and plans; (b) actively participate in grand jury proceedings, including the introduction of evidence and presentation of witnesses; and (c) litigate cases of moderate to high complexity, from charging to sentencing, with limited supervision. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree (or equivalent) and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) by their entry on duty date. Law school graduates and current law students taking a July 2026 bar examination may be considered, subject to the foregoing requirements. United States citizenship is required. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
