Bruntworkwear

Assistant Store Manager

North Reading, MA Full Time

We’re leading the way in redefining the workwear category. Our mission is to engineer better boots and apparel for our country’s tradesmen and women by working directly with real workers to learn what they actually need to execute their jobs.

The BRUNT team is not only devoted to improving on the old workwear standards, but we’re also creating a community that tradesmen and women can call their own. From our weekly hangouts at the BRUNT Garage, to hosting events across the country, we’re all about getting boots on the ground and building something real with the BRUNT crew.

The BRUNT flagship isn’t a traditional retail store, it’s a home base for the trades. A place where customers can walk in straight from a job site, try on gear built for real work, and talk with a team that understands their day-to-day. We’re building more than a place to shop, we’re creating a community hub where craftsmanship, grit, and pride in hard work come together through in-store events, local connections, and boots-on-the-ground experiences.

What You’ll Do:

As the Assistant Store Manager, you are the primary partner to the Store Manager in driving the store’s profitability and culture. You bridge the gap between high-level strategy and daily execution. While the Store Manager focuses on the "big picture," you own the rhythm of the floor, ensuring that Key Holders and Associates are coached, directives are met, and the customer experience is never compromised.

You will have meaningful autonomy to lead the team in the Store Manager’s absence, taking ownership of specific business segments like visual merchandising or team development. You are a leader-in-training, preparing for total store ownership by mastering operational excellence and people leadership.

How You’ll Do It:

LEAD & DEVELOP
  • Manage and develop the Key Holder and Associate team; provide consistent, actionable feedback to drive performance and career growth.
  • Partner with the Store Manager in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding top talent to build a high-performing "internal bench."
  • Oversee the execution of new-hire training and ongoing learning initiatives to ensure the team is expert in product knowledge and OMNI-channel tools.
SALES & BUSINESS PERFORMANCE
  • Analyze daily and weekly business data to identify trends; pivot floor strategies in real-time to exceed sales goals and KPIs.
  • Take an active role in managing controllable expenses, staffing levels, and loss-prevention audits to protect store profitability.
  • Assist in building external partnerships and executing local events that increase brand visibility and store traffic.
VISUAL & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
  • Oversee the execution of visual directives, ensuring the floor is replenished, styled, and marketed according to Brunt’s standards.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with shipment, transfers, and restock processes. You are responsible for the "back-of-house" efficiency that fuels "front-of-house" success.
  • Clearly communicate daily priorities to the team, balancing operational tasks with the need for a high-touch customer environment.
CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
  • Model an environment of genuine connection; step in to "save the sale" and resolve complex customer situations with professionalism.
  • Ensure the team is proficiently using all digital and physical tools to provide a seamless shopping experience.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • 2+ years of retail management experience
  • Background in staffing, coaching, training, and developing teams
  • Proven ability to drive sales, deliver financial results, and hire strong talent
  • Exceptional leadership, customer service, and selling skills
  • Strong organization, communication, and collaboration abilities
  • Solid merchant instincts and a proactive, results-driven work style
  • High integrity, honesty, and professionalism
  • Proficient with POS systems and Microsoft Office
  • Must be 18+ and able to reliably commute to the work location
  • Full-time availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to travel nationally up to 20%
  • On-site role in a retail store environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and reach for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Able to lift 30–40 lbs. regularly, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Compensation

In accordance with the Massachusetts Salary Range Transparency Law, the anticipated salary range for this role is: $50,000 – $60,000 per year. This range reflects the base salary that we reasonably expect to pay for this position at the time of posting.
