The University of Miami’s Cooperative Institute of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (CIMAS) has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Assistant Scientist. The work is concerned with understanding and developing high-quality projections on time scales of a few-years out to a couple of decades of extremes (e.g., floods, drought, extreme wind, storms, fire weather). The position includes close collaboration with climate modelers at CIMAS/Rosenstiel and at the University of Miami Institute for Data Science and Computing (IDSC).

The successful applicant must possess, at minimum, a Ph.D. in physical oceanography, atmospheric science, or a related subject and at least 1 year of relevant post-doctoral experience. The incumbent must also have a demonstrated ability in publishing results in the peer-reviewed literature. Other highly desired qualifications include knowledge of Python, and experience with time series and frequency domain analysis, and the ability to analyze output from numerical models for scientific research. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to develop research ideas through grant writing. Strong communication skills are a plus.
