About the Division:

The Division of Banking and Finance (BF) is committed to research excellence. Our faculty’s research is consistently featured in top finance and actuarial/insurance journals. Based on publications in the top five actuarial science/insurance journals, BF is consistently ranked Top 5 among business schools worldwide. The undergraduate programme currently offers two specialisations, Actuarial Science (ACS) and Risk Analytics (RA). The ACS programme is the only programme in Singapore accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and recognized by the Society of Actuaries as a Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE). The Insurance Risk & Finance Research Centre (IRFRC), which was established in 2011, sponsors and directs primary research on insurance and insurance-related risk research in Asia Pacific.

Position Overview:

The Research Fellow will be based at Nanyang Business School (NBS) and will play a critical role in advancing cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI risk, LLM supply chain security, and insurance innovation. The candidate will engage in frontier research on AI risk modeling, LLM reliability, systemic risk propagation, and emerging insurance frameworks for AI ecosystems. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and industry partners, the Research Fellow is expected to contribute to designing, prototyping, and validating quantitative models that enable secure, trustworthy, and insurable deployment of large language models (LLMs) across industries. The appointee will also be expected to produce high-impact research, present findings at academic and professional venues, and publish results in leading academic journals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Research Fellow will be responsible for:

  • Lead and contribute to research on LLM supply chain risk quantification, AI model reliability, and AI insurance frameworks, with a focus on bridging technical and financial risk domains.

  • Design, implement, and validate the LLM Risk Quantification and Insurance Support Engine, including model formulation, data analysis, and simulation of LLM risk scenarios.

  • Develop quantitative and actuarial models to translate AI system vulnerabilities and operational risks into measurable metrics relevant for insurance underwriting, pricing, and capital modeling.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Nanyang Business School and partner institutions in computer science, engineering, and insurance research.

  • Produce high-quality research outputs, including journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports for academic and industry dissemination.

  • Support the preparation of grant proposals, research reports, and stakeholder presentations to funding agencies and industry partners.

  • Presenting research findings at academic conferences, industry seminars, and workshops.

  • Publishing research outcomes in top-tier academic journals.

  • Uphold research integrity, project timelines, and deliverables as defined under the funded research program, and ensuring that research outputs meet the highest academic and professional standards.

Key Competency and Qualifications Requirements:

The incumbent will:

  • A PhD (or near completion) in Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Finance, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related discipline.

  • Demonstrate interdisciplinary working experience in AI, finance, and risk management, with a strong ability to integrate knowledge across domains.

  • Possess proven research experience with a solid track of publications in top-tier journals.

  • Technical Competencies

    • Proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages for data analysis and modeling.

    • Familiarity with AI/ML model evaluation, risk metrics, or reliability analysis.

    • Experience with quantitative or actuarial modeling, simulation, or loss distribution modeling is highly desirable.

    • Ability to translate complex technical risk indicators into financial and insurance-relevant insights.

  • Generic Competencies:

    • Exhibit strong attention to detail, with the ability to develop and implement quantitative models for AI risk analysis.

    • Display strong collaborative skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.

    • Demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
