Manages all Underwriting including the planning and monitoring work, development of underwriting and/or marketing skills, and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines. This position has direct accountability for the business results of their unit with respect to profitability, penetration and/or volume within a specific account, segment, geographic area, product or line of business.

  • Responsible for driving talent management, including but not limited not: attracting, managing, developing and retaining talent

  • Facilitate local decision making while ensuring the consistent execution of strategic initiatives.

  • Assesses underwriting skills of underwriters, delegating underwriting authority based on demonstrated skills, and creates a plan to increase underwriting technical capabilities

  • Drive consistent underwriting best practices and guidelines, in accordance with underwriting guidelines, to ensure rating, pricing, profitability, and structuring adequacy.

  • Apply deep knowledge of market and industry to advise others and provide guidance in regards to complex risks, exposures, and decisions

  • Ensure effective utilization of detailed monitoring standards including quality reviews and self-audits to assess underwriting results and compliance.

  • Handle referrals within stated authority.

  • Execution of division marketing strategy and representing AIG in the marketplace.

  • Ownership of relationships between insureds and distribution partners in the territory

  • Lead unit to achieve established goals and objectives for penetration, volume and profitability. Collaborate with Underwriting, Claim, Actuarial, Legal, Regulatory and Product Development to maintain the highest standards of product line profitability, marketability and regulatory compliance

TECHNICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of Financial Lines Underwriting, Agency or Brokerage experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.

  • Advanced knowledge of the US Financial Lines business (D&O, EPL, PTL, Cyber, Fidelity) including product features, forms, regulatory environment and risks etc.

  • Strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems as well as the ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, exercise influence, and manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects

  • Ability to exercise judgment, negotiate and make sound business decisions effectively based on level of authority

  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.

  • Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition and distribution.

  • Experience with budgeting and expense control.

  • Experience managing or leading a team and/or a P&L

For positions based in New York, the base salary range is $120,000-$180,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
