What we are recruiting for:

We are recruiting for a Assistant Project Manager to join our Regional Construction business as part of our Public Sector team on a £300m programme of works for the MoJ. This role will be based on the South coast in West Sussex.

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will support the Project Manager in the daily coordination and administration of construction projects from pre-construction through to completion. You will assist in monitoring project progress against the plan, managing project documentation, and facilitating effective communication between the site team, contractors, and design consultants. This role is instrumental in ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards on site.

Roles & responsibilities:

Assist the Project Manager in developing and implementing the project execution plan. Monitor and report on weekly progress against the short-term programme. Manage the project's Request for Information (RFI) and Technical Submission process. Coordinate site logistics and delivery schedules with subcontractors. Support the commercial team with tracking cost variations and reporting. 

Experience & background:

Essential Credentials:

  • Working towards Degree or equivalent qualification in construction 
  • Working towards Professional membership within the Construction industry 
  • CSCS Card 
  • SMSTS  
  • Written and verbal communication to influence and build relationships

Desirable

  • Experience of co-ordinating the works and the programme between different trade packages 
  • Technical construction/engineering skills 
  • Experience of planning / programming construction activities 
  • Knowledge of procedures relating to environmental and sustainability issues 

Essential Skills:

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.  
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills for resolving planning, estimating, contract administration, and procurement issues.  
  • Ability to prepare reports.  
  • Ability to work collaboratively to ensure successful project delivery. 

Essential Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of site health and safety regulations and procedures. 

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrable intermediate level of role knowledge gained through relevant experience.  
  • Knowledge of the Construction and Property industries.  
  • Understanding of estimating, scheduling, field supervision, contracts administration, procurement, financial controls, and reporting. 

Essential Behaviours:

  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders. 
  • Proactive in maintaining the conversion program and implementing acceleration measures if the program slips.
