Position Summary: Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time or part-time faculty position in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and experienced, Board Certified or Board Eligible Pediatric Dentist to participate in predoctoral and postdoctoral education. The candidate will contribute to clinical teaching, didactic instruction, curriculum development, and may engage in research and scholarly activities. A strong commitment to academic excellence, patient-centered care, and the advancement of oral health equity is essential.

Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities): Assign a percentage to each essential function (equal to 100%):

  • Serve as a clinical and didactic faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry for both predoctoral and postdoctoral dental programs.
  • Supervise and instruct dental students and residents in pediatric dental diagnosis, treatment planning, restorative and preventive treatment and sedation dentistry.
  • Provide instruction in pediatric dentistry, dentistry for individuals with special health care needs, and dental sedation.
  • Supervise pediatric dental residents and student doctors on and off campus.
  • Participate in curriculum development, course management, and strategic planning initiatives.

  • Prepare and deliver lectures, laboratory exercises, and clinical demonstrations.
  • Mentor students and residents in clinical skills, professional development, and scholarly activity.
  • Engage in scholarly and research activities aligned with the mission of Meharry Medical College
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees as assigned.
  • Support outcomes assessment and continuous quality improvement efforts

  • Perform other related duties as assigned including but not limited to participation in committees and mentorship of student doctor and resident research.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Demonstrated proficiency in clinical pediatric dentistry including treatment of patients under
minimal and moderate sedation.
Strong instructional and communication skills with experience in academic settings.
Ability to work effectively with diverse students, faculty, and patient populations.
Familiarity with current technologies and evidence-based practices in periodontology.
Capacity to contribute to a mission-driven institution committed to health equity.

Education and Experience Required:
DDS or DMD from a U.S. or Canadian accredited dental school.
Completion of a CODA-accredited postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry.
Clinical teaching experience at the predoctoral or postdoctoral level.

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:
Must be licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Tennessee or be eligible for licensure.
Must be licensed to administer minimal and moderate sedation in the state of Tennessee or be
eligible for licensure.
Board certification of eligibility with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
