Job Description:

The Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management at Louisiana State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor effective August 2026. The Department seeks outstanding applicants in several engineering-related fields to advance LSU Strategic Plan goals, including but not limited to the following research areas:

  • Coast and Communities – resilient construction, innovative materials and methods, transportation, natural disaster risk assessments and sciences, post-disaster damage recovery and reconstruction, remote damage sensing, performance of industrial structures subjected to multiple hazards (wind and flood; actual and predictive models), and stochastic time, cost and environmental impact optimization.

  • Efficient and Clean Energy – sustainable engineering and design, energy assessment, green technologies, intelligent systems, thermal simulation, energy efficiency, electric grid technology/efficiencies, demand side optimization, automation, renewable or innovative materials/methods, energy storage system hazards, and energy innovations.

  • Human in the Loop – Wearable technologies to enhance construction worker safety and performance; biosensors for noninvasive physiological monitoring to detect early medical conditions and safety of emergency or construction personnel, VR/AR/MR, digital twin, cyber-physical systems, and construction AI.

  • Military and Defense – optimizing critical infrastructure and key industrial facilities against attack, risk assessment and mitigation, operational efficacy, decision support systems, robotics, automation, hardened facility design and materials, advanced sensory systems, reality capture technologies, systems integration, automated/adaptive rapid construction and monitoring.

The successful candidate is expected to have a strong record of academic accomplishments and a willingness to collaborate with other researchers within and outside the CM department to expand disciplinary boundaries, and should demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly work, sponsored research, mentoring students, supporting/advancing teaching (campus and online), and participating in service activities pertaining to the mission of the Division and advancement of the profession as well as providing service to our LSU community.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research - 50%: 

    • Sponsored research, scholarly publications and presentations

    • Collaborate with other researchers within and outside the CM department to expand disciplinary boundaries

  • Teaching and Service - 50%: 

    • This position will plan and teach courses related to construction engineering and management and will include both campus and online undergraduate or graduate classes.

    • Student advising, mentoring, and supervising student interns and graduate assistants

    • Participates in institutional meetings and serves on department, college and/or university committees

Department Information:

The CM Department and its related research centers have 20 faculty and 10 staff members. This growing collection of faculty and staff combines their strengths and talents to meet the teaching, research, and outreach of the Department. They are actively supported by a large construction industry base that has gifted funds for endowed chairs, professorships, scholarships, and discretionary funding. There are over 2,000 students across four undergraduate degree programs (campus and online) that are studying to major, or intending to major, in construction or facilities management. In addition, we have 150 graduate students working towards a Master of Science in CM (campus and online) and 50 working towards their Ph.D. in CM. The LSU CM undergraduate and master’s programs are accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The CM Department houses the federally funded center: Industrial Training and Assessment Center (ITAC,).  There are 80+ research grants and sub-grants within the CM Department averaging around $3.5 million annually.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. is required in construction management, construction engineering, or a related discipline before the start date.  ABDs will be considered.

  • The successful candidate needs to have a proven record of teaching, published research, and demonstrated ability to attract external funding.
