Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth and development of the department and the broader university through innovative research, mentorship of students and faculty, and leadership in advancing the field of mathematics and statistics. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics or Mathematics Education or a closely related field. All Ph.D. requirements must be completed before employment commences.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Candidates with postdoctoral research experience and a good track record of research activities e.g., mentoring, publications, and grants, will be given preference;

  • Experience in teaching mathematics at the undergraduate and graduate level is preferred.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate (BA, BS), and graduate level (MS, Ph.D) courses in mathematics, statistics, or mathematics education, depending upon area (s) of expertise;

  • Develop and teach in-person, hybrid, or online courses, as needed;

  • Develop robust research activities at the undergraduate (BA, BS), and graduate level (MS, Ph.D);

  • Service activities are also expected, including participation on program-level, college, and university-wide committees, assisting with recruitment and retention, engaging with the community, and advising Mathematics and Statistics majors;

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Background in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education;

  • Research expertise with strong potential to complement and strengthen current departmental expertise in areas such as Differential Equations, Computational Mathematics, Convex Geometry, Statistics, and Mathematics Education;

  • Knowledge and use of evidence-based teaching practices, including active learning practices;

  • Knowledge and use of academic learning management systems (LMS), such as Blackboard or Canvas;

  • Skilled in utilizing various computer software programs, including Google products, MS Office, and any Graphing software to enhance academic and administrative tasks;

  • Capable of developing course materials and effectively teaching in hybrid or online platforms as required.
