The Assistant Nurse Manager provides clinical supervision and coordinates unit clinical operations with other departmental disciplines under the direction of the Nurse Manager. This leader provides effective and efficient patient care to all ages on assigned shifts or as otherwise designated. Additionally, this caregiver assumes the responsibilities of the nurse manager in his/her absence.
A caregiver in this position works day shifts, 7:00am - 7:30pm or 7:00am - 3:30pm (2 – 8 hour shifts or 2 -12 hour shifts).
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit staff and other departments and units regarding issues related to patient care.
Ensure continuity of patient care information between shifts, coordinate patient admitting, discharges, transfers and other operational issues.
Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers.
Provide ongoing clinical evaluations of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers.
Counsel employees on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions and collaborate in monitoring attendance issues.
Alert Nurse Manager of significant clinical or other performance issues.
Participate in interviewing, selecting and appraising the performance of employees.
Monitor the adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines.
Administer Nursing Institute, departmental and CC policies and procedures.
Supervise and participate in the daily delivery of patient care on assigned unit/area.
Prepare schedule of work assignments, assuring adequate coverage on all shifts.
Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcome studies and research initiatives.
Participate in department groups and committees as assigned.
Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Certification must be presented upon hire.
Two years of recent clinical nurse experience
Demonstratable clinical knowledge and skills; oral, written and interpersonal skills; and strong analytical and organization skills
