Job Title: Assistant Manager - Unit Supply Chain

About the role:

Level: L6A

Reports to: Unit Head

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: This role manages material purchase planning and deployment for the Unit. The key objective is to ensure that purchase orders are released on time, inventory levels stay optimal, and overall costs are reduced - all while working within the allocated supply.

Qualification: Bachelor's degree in business administration or engineering | Master’s in Production and Operations preferred.

Experience: 8-10 years of relevant functional experience in Purchase, materials control, warehousing and Excise.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Plan and execute material purchases aligned to S&OP; ensure timely PO release, smooth material flow, and effective coordination with suppliers and transporters.
  • Manage Stores operations, including receipt and dispatch of goods, accurate RM/PM/BM/FG/engineering spares/capex/opex stock maintenance, FIFO/FEFO compliance, stock control measures, and daily inventory accuracy.
  • Oversee warehousing efficiency - space planning, capacity forecasting, safety, hygiene, and security standards, along with upkeep of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels through robust controls, regular reconciliations, recycled material tracking, and minimising stock-outs or excesses.
  • Drive end-to-end logistics operations, including procurement, warehousing, and dispatch, while optimising logistics costs, vendor performance, and truck turnaround time (TTT).
  • Ensure complete compliance with State/Central Excise norms—daily record updates, bonding/debonding, stock verification, statutory submissions, and accurate FG loading.
  • Manage scrap disposal at best commercial value and ensure secure transit of inbound/outbound goods through insurance and credit-term optimisation.
  • Lead budgeting and reporting for SCM: cost monitoring, MIS on sales/dispatch/inventory/excise, capex planning, and contingency planning.
  • Liaise with Sales, Planning, Packing, Vendors, Transporters, and Excise bodies to ensure seamless cross-functional operations and timely issue resolution.
  • Lead, guide, and develop the SCM & Stores team through training, performance monitoring, productivity improvement, and adherence to corrective action plans.
