Assistant Engineering Manager

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Assistant Engineering Manager  to join the Arriva Leicester team.
In this key leadership role, you will support the Garage Engineering Manager in running a safe, efficient, and high-performing workshop. You’ll play a vital part in ensuring fleet availability meets PVR requirements at all times, while operating within budget and delivering against core KPIs and regulatory standards.

Main Responsibilities
This role supports the Engineering Manager in delivering a safe, compliant, and efficient engineering operation. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Acting as the designated on-site lead for depot security, health & safety, and safe working practices
  • Supporting the Engineering Manager by working to the Leader Standard Work and carrying out additional tasks as required
  • Leading and supervising workshop teams to ensure the safe and efficient servicing, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and cleaning of vehicles and components
  • Planning, allocating, and balancing workload to ensure work is delivered at the right time and to specification
  • Liaising with Working Chargehands to maintain on-road engineering performance within agreed targets, ensuring clear communication and accurate data capture
  • Ensuring full compliance with health & safety legislation, quality procedures, and environmental systems

About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
  • A strong engineering background with proven experience in maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy vehicles, equipment, or machinery
  • Ideally, experience within the bus or HGV industry
  • A recognized engineering apprenticeship or vocational qualification (mechanical, electrical, or similar), or qualification to degree/diploma level in engineering or vehicle maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety, leading by example (IOSH desirable)
  • The ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, creating a safe, positive, and high-performing working environment
