Assistant Director/Associate - Statistics (Contract)

[What the role is]

This role specifically includes providing accurate, timely, and compliant reporting to international organisations, notably the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

[What you will be working on]

The Statistics Team is part of the Economics & Knowledge Management Group (EKMG) in MAS, and is responsible for compiling and analysing statistics collected from financial institutions in Singapore to support surveillance, research and policy.

This role specifically includes providing accurate, timely, and compliant reporting to international organisations, notably the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Meeting these reporting obligations are important to contributing to the understanding of global spillovers and risks given Singapore’s status as a major international financial centre. It requires the analysis of financial and economic data from internal systems and external sources, as well as collaborating with other MAS departments to align reporting with organisational objectives.

As a Statistician in EKMG, you will also contribute to improving data management workflows, systems and analytical processes through the application of statistical methodologies and technology. You will be required to conduct data-driven analysis, which may be in collaboration with the Economists in EKMG, and explain the analyses in ways that are accessible to management and stakeholders.

[What we are looking for]

We are looking for candidates with:

  • A University degree in Statistics, Economics, Maths, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Accountancy or in other field with substantial quantitative content

  • Strong ability in understanding and applying technology solutions to work processes

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language and one data visualisation tool would be preferred

  • Effective communication skills (oral and written)

  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and innovatively with team members

  • Keen learner who is adaptable and is able to work independently in a dynamic and agile environment
