Reporting to the Director of Learning Design & Development, the Assistant Director of Experiential Learning & Innovation provides strategic and operational leadership for experiential learning, emerging technologies, and development tools across LSU Online & Continuing Education’s online portfolio. This role leads the exploration, implementation, and sustainable scaling of simulation-based learning, AR/VR applications, interactive and immersive course models, and other innovative technologies that strengthen workforce readiness, student engagement, and program outcomes. By aligning technology strategy with designer mentoring, tool governance, and measurable impact, the position ensures innovation is implemented consistently, effectively, and at scale.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead the identification, evaluation, and scaling of experiential learning models, including simulations, AR/VR environments, interactive modules, immersive scenarios, and applied, project-based learning strategies aligned to workforce readiness and specialized program outcomes. Translate emerging trends into practical, mission-aligned initiatives that enhance course quality and student success. 25%
Manage a nationwide design consultant pool to support design and development capacity. Provide structured training, documentation, and performance feedback.25%
Foster effective collaboration with key stakeholders to define success metrics tied to student engagement, skill acquisition, retention, and design effectiveness of experiential learning; analyze results and lead data-informed decisions regarding broader adoption and long-term sustainability. 20%
Foster effective collaboration with faculty, designers, vendors, and academic leadership to align immersive and experiential strategic initiatives with program goals and technological needs. Serve as a consultative leader and internal thought partner to advance LSU Online & Continuing Education’s reputation for innovative, skills-based online education. 10%
Oversee the selection, implementation, and lifecycle management of learning experience design and development tools, monitoring usage, adoption, and impact on efficiency, innovation, and course quality. Ensure designers are equipped to implement simulation, immersive, and interactive learning strategies effectively. 10%
Partner with faculty to design and develop high-quality, engaging learning experiences tailored to learner needs. Other duties as assigned. 10%
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design or related field with 3 years related experience.
Degree Substitute: LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Instructional Design or related field with 7 years of learning design and development experience.
Specific Experience:
Significant experience in the online course design and development. Extensive experience with academic technologies and accessibility, including interactive learning asset development.
