Job Description

Assist the Front Office Legal Team in providing legal support in relation to all aspects of the sell-side relationships and front office documentation, with a particular focus on ISDA, MSFTA and GMRA master agreements.

Key Responsibilities

-        Negotiating ISDA Master Agreements, GMRA Master Documentation, MSFTAs, execution clearing terms and clearing agreements (including subsequent amendments) for OTC Derivative, ETD Derivatives and FX Transactions (supporting business partners in Columbia Threadneedle Investments), Non-Disclosure Agreements.

-        Keeping internal stakeholders informed on the progress of negotiations, including by attending internal update meetings with client directors, the onboarding team, client services and business partners.

-        Ensuring new funds are added to the ISDAs, GMRAs, MSFTAs and clearing agreements and execution clearing terms

-        Assisting middle and back-office in the collateral set-up process for new funds

-        Liaising with counterparties in relation to negotiation of master agreements

-        Liaising with internal stakeholders and counterparty banks with regards to the onboarding of required funds to the relevant master agreements

-        Attending regular progress update calls with the counterparty banks and ensuring efficient negotiation process by promptly escalating problematic issues

-        Negotiating Master Confirmation Agreements for specific derivatives products.

-        Managing internal legal review process of draft confirmations generated by counterparties

-        Providing ad hoc support to the Front Office – GCO legal team, including completing documentation relating to trading a variety of financial instruments and/or global work where appropriate.

-        Assisting the legal counsel/s to ensure compliance with key regulatory developments in the derivatives, repo and trading space

-        Promoting the implementation of negotiation parameters and templates in accordance with internal guidelines set by requisite risk committees

-    Maintaining dashboards and records of key agreements and terms.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with 3-7 years of relevant, proven legal experience in derivatives products, ISDA documentations, OTC products, other synthetic products, reviewing and analyzing the legal derivative agreement and related documents;

  • Solid understanding of the specific terms (and policy reasoning for such terms) in trading documentation for derivatives products, as well as the ability to clearly articulate such terms and reasoning.

  • A team player with excellent communication skills, who enjoys technical work and a fast paced environment;

  • Able to build successful working relationships across all relevant business areas globally and with trading counterparties;

  • An interest in contributing to a global team and learning about the business and clients;  

  • Able to work independently, building own internal client network under supervision; and

  • Able to pay attention to detail and manage workload autonomously.
