Job Details:

Mercer University Athletics Department is searching for an Assistant Coach for Baseball on the Macon, Georgia campus.


 

Responsibilities:

The assistant coach is responsible for recruiting potential student-athletes. This position will scout opponents and assist with preparing game strategy, player development for offensive skills, and outfield/catching and defensive skills. The assistant coach will also assist in scheduling and travel arrangements, fundraising/athletic development, monitoring academic progress of student-athletes, and ordering and managing equipment. This position is also responsible for other duties as assigned.

Duties include:

Teaching/Coaching:

•    Instruct, teach and coach student-athletes during practice and competition (Direct, encourage, and motivate athletes to prepare them for competitions).

•    Instruct athletes on proper techniques of hitting, baserunning, and infield/outfield play of baseball.

•    Encourage and promote high academic and athletic standards.

•    Sets a high standard in academic and scholarly excellence, personal integrity, professional competence, and professional ethics. 

•    Teaching life skills to enrich the emotional well-being of the student-athlete through proper role modeling and the demonstration of high ethical standards and behavior.

•    Works to prepare them for life after baseball as well as setting high standards for personal integrity and professional ethics.

•    Conduct video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool.

•    Plans practice and/or competition strategy.
 

Recruiting:

•    Identify, evaluate and recruit potential team members.

•    Retain current MU students as team members.

•    Ensure that program meets annual squad size number.

•    Ensure program recruiting activities adhere to University and NCAA Policies and Procedures.
 

Administration:

•    Assist with travel arrangements.

•    Assist with fundraising.

•    Maintaining facilities and equipment.

•    Monitoring academic progress of student-athletes.


Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and prior collegiate playing or experience coaching baseball at the collegiate level, preferably in Division I, are required.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of NCAA and Atlantic Sun conference rules in relation to baseball.

  • NCAA/Atlantic Sun Conference recruiting test which allows the coach to recruit off-campus.

  • A baseball oriented background.

  • Ability to recruit quality student-athletes who have the capabilities to be successful in a challenging academic and athletic environment.
