Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ARTILLERY REPAIRER, Position Description Number D1224000 and is part of the KS Maneuver And Training Equipment Site, Fort Riley, KS, Kansas Army National Guard.

Major Duties:

  • As an ARTILLARY REPAIRER, WG-6605-10, you will perform maintenance, repair, and inspections on the electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components on armored vehicle turrets. Repairs all mechanical parts involved in turret traversing, such as the traversing gearbox including the clutch assembly, and turret races including cupola bearings. Repairs the gears and bearings in the gearbox. Repairs all small gear drive components including those required to raise and lower the gun. Tests and repairs electrical test sets that are used to test the electrical systems of the tank turret. Follows schematic diagrams and relays to determine if there is malfunction in the test equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 4/10's compressed work schedule with four 10-hour days, Tuesday-Friday each week of the pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

Qualifications: Military Grades: E1 through E8 - however enlisted applicants who hold a higher grade, may provide a written statement of understanding with their application indicating a willingness to be administratively reduced in grade to the highest grade advertised, if selected for the position. Compatible Military Assignments: Immaterial GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic system operations. Experience demonstrating the ability to fit and adjust parts and assemblies. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training demonstrating a broad knowledge in repairing, rebuilding, modifying and testing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and major components of artillery systems. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining needed repairs in artillery systems. Experience demonstrating the ability to inspect artillery systems. Experience which demonstrates the ability to develop test standards. Experience interpreting and applying drawings, schematics, blueprints, diagrams and specifications. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves bending, stooping, crouching, and kneeling. Works in confined spaces and in awkward positions. Lifts and carries parts and assemblies weighing from 15 to 25 pounds. Some may weigh as much as 40 pounds. Weight handling equipment or the assistance of other workers is available for heavy lifts. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done in shop areas that are drafty and noisy. Frequently stands on hard surfaces for long periods. Dirt, dust, and grease are usually present. There is exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and sprains as well as to falls on slippery and inclined surfaces.
