GE Healthcare

Architect Engineer - Electrical (Analog & Mixed Signal)

Waukesha Full time

Job Description Summary

The Architect Engineer – Electrical (Analog & Mixed Signal) plays a key technical and strategic role in shaping the architecture, design, and verification of high‑performance analog and mixed‑signal electronics that power our next‑generation Imaging Detectors (CT) and Digital Electronics Platform. Your work will directly influence innovations such as Photon Counting CT (Pluto) and support our commitment to delivering reliable, high‑quality, and cost‑effective products used in healthcare settings worldwide.

In this role, you will lead system‑level analog/mixed‑signal architecture, define performance budgets (noise, SNR/ENOB, linearity, bandwidth, jitter, SI/PI, EMC), and guide concept‑to‑production execution across new product introduction (NPI) programs. You will also contribute to Installed Base (IB) quality initiatives and Variable Cost Productivity (VCP) efforts that help make our technology more accessible to patients and clinicians.

You will collaborate with a broad, global team—including Systems Engineering, Digital Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Firmware, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Service—to deliver robust and scalable solutions. We value inclusive teamwork, thoughtful communication, and a growth mindset, and we welcome candidates who are passionate about advancing medical technology and eager to mentor others.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead endtoend analog/mixedsignal architecture development for imaging detector subsystems, including AFEs, ADCs/DACs, precision references, PLL/clocking, and power management.
  • Translate product and clinical needs into clear technical specifications, system trade studies, and performance budgets; partition analog vs. digital/FPGA/SoC functionality.
  • Develop and evolve design guidelines for lownoise, precision, and highspeed mixedsignal designs (grounding, shielding, isolation, filtering, return paths, guard rings, controlled impedance).
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary design reviews, including Technical Design Reviews (TDRs), DFMEA/FMEA, risk assessments, and reliability planning.
  • Direct the design and review of lownoise AFEs (e.g., TIAs, PGAs, drivers), dataconverter interfaces, precision references, protection/ESD, and power architectures (LDOs, DCDC).
  • Guide PCB stackup, placement, and layout for mixedsignal integrity (SI/PI/EMC), approving critical constraints and clearances.
  • Lead multilevel simulation efforts: SPICE (noise, linearity, corners/Monte Carlo), SI/PI/EMI, behavioral modeling (VerilogA/AMS, MATLAB/Simulink), and mixedsignal test benches.
  • Define verification strategies, characterization matrices, and test automation; lead lab bringup and structured rootcause analysis using a variety of measurement tools.
  • Ensure designs meet EMC/EMI, safety, and reliability requirements; align deliverables with IEC 606011/6060112 or comparable regulatedindustry standards.
  • Create and maintain functional specifications, verification plans, traceability documentation, and release artifacts.
  • Lead evaluations related to component obsolescence and Supplier Change Requests; support VCP and costreduction efforts while upholding clinical and regulatory performance.
  • Support Installed Base quality initiatives and field issue resolution through structured problemsolving and design updates.
  • Mentor and coach engineers at various career stages, fostering a culture of inclusion, technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Work productively across global, crossfunctional teams and with external suppliers and partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in analog and mixedsignal architecture and design for highperformance systems (e.g., medical imaging, industrial sensing, communications, aerospace, or similar).
  • Proficiency with schematic capture tools (e.g., Cadence OrCAD/Allegro, Altium) and oversight of mixedsignal PCB layout.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate across functions and communicate complex concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • Expertise in lownoise AFEs; highresolution or highspeed data conversion; PLL/clocking/jitter budgeting; and power integrity.
  • Experience working with regulated industries such as medical devices, including standards such as IEC 606011, 6060112, ISO 13485, or FDA QSR.
  • Demonstrated EMC/EMI design experience, including precompliance/compliance testing.
  • Training or certification in DFSS/Six Sigma or structured problemsolving.
  • Experience with reliability engineering (derating, MTBF, HALT/HASS) and PLM/lifecycle management tools.
  • Program leadership experience in planning, estimation, resourcing, risk management, and delivering against reliability, performance, cost, serviceability, DFM, and schedule targets.
