This is a developmental position that can be filled at any grade. The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a professional architect, performing design, project programming, construction management/monitoring duties and improvement projects of real property facilities and infrastructure, including utility systems in support of a military installation.

Qualifications: THIS IS A DEVELOPMENTAL POSITION WITH KNOWN PROMOTION POTENTIAL TO THE TARGET POSITION OF GS-0808-12 WITHOUT FURTHER COMPETITION. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions. For more information: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=GS-PROF BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's Degree: Architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. For more information: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/architecture-series-0808/ OR Successful completion of a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a Bachelor of Architecture or higher degree in an accredited college or university is qualifying or architecture degree with appropriate experience as a technician equivalent to GS-5 or higher may be credited for grade GS-7 on a month-for-month basis up to a maximum of 12 months; or Registration to practice architecture by one of the State registration boards by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards OR Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE (GS-07/GS-09/GS-11/GS-12): Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05 for GS-07 or GS-07 for GS-09 or GS-09 for GS-11 or GS-11 for GS-12 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: GS-7: Utilizing knowledge of architectural concepts, principles, and practices applicable to a broad range of architectural, engineering, construction management, life cycle management, etc. and related assignments. Knowledge of design and construction practices and techniques in establishing design parameters and preparing project justifications and specifications. Knowledge of drafting techniques and conventions and drafting skills sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings. GS-9: Utilizing architectural concepts, principles, and practices applicable to a broad range of architectural, engineering, construction management, life cycle management, etc. and related assignments. Design and construction practices and techniques in establishing design parameters and preparing project justifications and specifications. Using drafting techniques and conventions and drafting skills sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings. Comprehensive knowledge of the installation/command mission and organization. Understanding of state and local jurisdictions over the use of land and natural resources, the construction of facilities and utilities, and the distribution of utilities services. GS-11: Utilizing architectural concepts, principles, and practices applicable to a broad range of architectural, engineering, construction management, life cycle management, etc. and related assignments. Design and construction practices and techniques in establishing design parameters and preparing project justifications and specifications. Using drafting techniques and conventions and drafting skills sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings. Comprehensive knowledge of the installation/command mission and organization. Understanding of state and local jurisdictions over the use of land and natural resources, the construction of facilities and utilities, and the distribution of utilities services. Skill in technical writing sufficient to develop solutions to problems such as procedures and methods of installation of material, extent or scope of work to be performed, quality of materials to be installed, and acceptable levels of workmanship. Plan and monitor large-scale projects to assure compliance with applicable objectives, standards, and requirements. GS-12: Utilizing architectural concepts, principles, and practices applicable to a broad range of architectural, engineering, construction management, life cycle management, etc. and related assignments. Design and construction practices and techniques in establishing design parameters and preparing project justifications and specifications. Using drafting techniques and conventions and drafting skills sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings. Comprehensive knowledge of the installation/command mission and organization. Understanding of state and local jurisdictions over the use of land and natural resources, the construction of facilities and utilities, and the distribution of utilities services. Skill in technical writing sufficient to develop solutions to problems such as procedures and methods of installation of material, extent or scope of work to be performed, quality of materials to be installed, and acceptable levels of workmanship. Plan and monitor large-scale projects to assure compliance with applicable objectives, standards, and requirements. Modify standard practices and adapt equipment or techniques to solve a variety of problems. Adapt precedents or make significant departures from previous approaches to similar projects in order to provide for specialized requirements of some projects. OR GS-07-1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement OR GS-09- 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR GS-11-3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of qualifying education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
