Apprentice Multi Trade Operative

Hybrid Full time

Salary: London - £30,784 per annum (£14.80 per hour)

National – £27,976 per annum (£13.45 per hour)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract Type: 2-year apprenticeship / Fixed Term Contract 

Location:  South London, East of England, North London, Sussex and South England

We have 5 available positions, 1 in each of the following areas:

  • South London - Merton
  • East - Peterborough, Huntingdon, Cambridge
  • North London – Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney
  • Sussex – Haywards Heath
  • South - Plymouth

Clarion Housing are offering you the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills working alongside an experienced trade mentor, designed to provide high-quality training and hands-on experience.

If you’re interested in developing a broad range of fundamental trade skills then this could be your chance to join our team working for the UKs largest Housing association. 

This level 2 apprenticeship includes skills in carpentry, joinery, plumbing, plastering, brick and block work, external works and associated finishing trades including tiling, painting, and decorating. 

Starting in August 2026 you’ll gain experience in repairs and maintenance, deliver services to our residents’ homes and comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards.  You’ll ensure that the service delivered exceeds customer needs, requirements and expectations by working with your mentor and colleagues to develop a culture which continually improves the customer experience. 

With good communication and people skills you’ll promote teamwork and develop excellent working relationships with all members of staff across the Clarion Housing Group, and all other key stakeholders, both internal and external. 

Experience in interacting with mobile IT devices, such as smart phones or tablets and a passion to provide excellent customer service is essential.

Please note this multi-trade apprenticeship is delivered as block release.  That means that if you are successful in securing this apprenticeship then you will need to stay away from home (in a hotel) for one week, every 5/6 weeks, with all expenses covered.  This is so you can attend a learning centre in Derby. (Information is below)

Closing Date: Monday 23rd March 2026 at midnight.  You may receive a follow up call regarding your application prior to this date.  

All applications will go through an initial shortlisting stage, where CVs and answer provided within the application form will be reviewed. Candidates who are successful at this stage will be contacted and invited to take part in a telephone interview as part of the pre-screening process. Following this, shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend an unpaid one-day work placement, along with a final interview. These are scheduled to take place between April and May 2026. (If the proposed date is not suitable, your interviewer will work with you to arrange an alternative where possible.)

Training & Accommodation

Successful candidates will be required to attend one-week block releases at our partnered training provider in Derby. All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered in advance.

• Candidates aged 18 and over: Accommodation will be arranged in a hotel, in partnership with the training provider.

• Candidates under 18: Residential accommodation will be provided by the training provider, with all residentials undergoing strict DBS checks to ensure learner safety. Families will also have the opportunity to meet the residential team to ensure candidates feel comfortable and supported.

• Meals included: Breakfast and dinner will be provided for all apprentices

• Schedule: A block planner outlining the required training provider attendance dates will be shared in advance.

Programme Commitment

This apprenticeship has been specifically designed in partnership with the training provider to ensure a high-quality learning experience, allowing apprentices to develop their skills and share best practices as a cohort.

As this is a 24-month apprenticeship, it is important that applicants fully understand and are comfortable with the commitment required before applying.
