Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Investigator

What you’ll do

Reporting to Manager, Anti-Money Laundering, the Anti-Money Laundering (‘AML’) Investigator will join Canadian Tire Bank's (‘CTB’) AML team and will play a key role in helping CTB to detect, prevent, and report money laundering, terrorist financing and/or sanction evasions activities.

 

In this role, the incumbent will support various elements of the Bank’s AML/ATF/Sanctions Program by reviewing alerts and escalations, conducting investigations and assessments, making risk-based recommendations for regulatory filings, and preparing and submitting reports to FINTRAC. Additionally, the Investigator will oversee outsourced investigative work, including QA/QC reviews and providing subject matter expert advice, while also participating in various AML/ATF projects and initiatives as needed.

  • Being a part of the AML Investigations Team, the incumbent will be conducting a variety of AML/ATF activities and reviews, including name screening, transaction monitoring, customer risk assessment and due diligence reviews, high-risk customer identification and related enhanced due diligence measures, UTR and other escalations, investigations to identify and mitigate potential money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions evasion risks, and completing regulatory reporting.

  • Oversee outsourced investigative work, including, but not limited to, conducting QA/QC reviews, providing subject matter expert advice as needed, and performing any additional tasks related to the Bank's AML/ATF/Sanctions Program as required.

  • Review and analyze large volume of customer data and transactions to identify potential instances or patterns of money laundering, terrorist financing, or sanctions evasion.

  • Perform ongoing monitoring activities, including for high-risk customers.

  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to FINTRAC.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of internal policies, procedures and processes applicable to the AML/ATF/Sanctions investigations and regulatory reporting work, including completing the required ongoing training and attestations.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of AML/ATF/Sanctions regulatory requirements and current developments, techniques and indicators related to money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions evasion.

  • Participate in training including internal/external forums, workshops, webinars, online training modules and industry events to remain current in the AML/ATF/Sanctions landscape.

  • Participate in AML/ATF projects and initiatives to support the AML team in a variety of activities related to the Bank’s AML/ATF/Sanctions Program.

  • Collaborate, develop and foster relationships internally within the AML team and with other departments and cross-functional teams in the organization to address AML/ATF-related issues and to ensure a holistic approach to compliance and risk management.

  • Identify and share continuous improvement opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of the Bank’s AML/ATF/Sanctions Program.

What you bring

  • 2+ years of experience working in the Regulatory Compliance field, with a focus on AML/ATF/Sanctions in the financial services industry, including experience in conducting AML/ATF investigations, performing QA/QC reviews, and preparing regulatory reporting.

  • University degree or equivalent education.

  • Understanding of Regulatory Compliance field, specifically AML/ATF/Sanctions.

  • Knowledge of current developments, techniques and indicators related to money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions evasion.

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • In-depth analytical and investigative thinking; strong research skills.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to make sound decisions based on complex and sensitive information.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to take a collaborate approach to build strong relationships and have positive team experiences.

  • Demonstrates behaviour of transparency, accountability, agility and learning from others.

  • Ability to effectively take ownership of a task/project and deliver high quality results in a timely manner while working independently with minimum supervision; ability to prioritize workload based on risk and associated deadlines.

  • Ability to learn, to adapt to changing environment and accept change in a positive way while successfully performing in role.

  • Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Prior experience working in a high-volume financial transaction environment/high volume production team is an asset.

  • Familiarity with ML/TF investigation tools, technology, and data analytics is an asset.

  • Strong understanding of the Canadian AML/ATF legislative and regulatory requirements is an asset.

  • Current AML/AFC certification (e.g. CAMS, CFCS or equivalent), or willingness to obtain.

Our typical hiring range is between $44,000.00 and $73,000.00 CAD Annual. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, job-related knowledge, skills and competencies, market location, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role-specific requirements.
