The Hospital Shift Lead is a key member of the hospital leadership team, responsible for providing consistent, on-the-floor operational leadership during the shift. This role includes leading shifts, managing equipment issues, supporting pet parent de-escalation, and responding to staff or pet parent needs in
alignment with Lovet policies and procedures. The Shift Lead role is designed to be a launching pad for operational growth at Lovet.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Shift Leadership & Hospital Operations:
• Lead the shift, including but not limited to managing equipment issues, general pet parent de-escalation needs, and handling staff or pet parent injuries in accordance with Lovet policies and procedures.
• Maintain a visible leadership presence on the floor to support hospital flow and team effectiveness.
• Facilitate rounds to ensure clear communication, appropriate case follow-up, and alignment on priorities for the shift as needed.
• Handle staff and DVM callouts in accordance with local hospital protocol and Lovet policies and procedures to ensure appropriate coverage.
• Assign rooms according to local hospital protocol to support efficient patient flow and room utilization.
• Manage the client schedule, including accommodating work-ins, to balance patient needs, client experience, and hospital capacity.
• Ensure team members take required lunches and breaks, maintaining both well-being and operational coverage.
• Receive shipments and ensure proper routing and storage of supplies and medications.
• Process deposits as needed when no Hospital Manager is on shift on a Monday, following established financial procedures.
Training & On-Shift Development:
• Oversee training on the shift by checking in with trainers and trainees to ensure training is progressing as planned.
• Address training needs and barriers that arise during the shift, escalating to the Hospital Manager as appropriate.
• Train staff as needed, reinforcing Lovet protocols, workflows, and standards of care.
• Support a learning-focused environment by providing real-time feedback and coaching.
Inventory, Ordering & Controlled Substances:
• Conduct controlled drug audits in accordance with Lovet policy and regulatory requirements.
• Manage inventory and ordering to maintain appropriate levels of medications, supplies, and equipment.
• Ensure accurate receiving, storage, and rotation of inventory to support safe and efficient hospital
operations.
Leadership, Meetings & Communication:
• Attend hospital leadership meetings and actively participate in discussions related to operations, team training, and hospital initiatives.
• Support the planning and coordination of quarterly lunch-and-learn meetings to support ongoing education and engagement.
• Attend quarterly financial meetings and receive training and exposure to Tableau and key hospital reports/metrics.
• Use financial and operational metrics to better understand hospital performance and support data informed decision-making as well as driving incentives.
• Observe quarterly staff check-ins as available, partnering with the Hospital Manager to understand team strengths, needs, and development opportunities.
• Stay current on Lovet emails, Teams messages, The Pack app, and any other internal communication platforms.

Required Skills and Abilities:
• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively while meeting deadlines.
• Comfort using or learning basic reporting/analytics tools (e.g., Tableau) and interpreting operational metrics.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a customer-focused environment preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of veterinary or animal care experience is highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking within clinical and lobby areas.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Regular use of computer and office equipment for documentation, communication, and reporting.
