What is the opportunity? 

As an Analyst on the Real Estate Corporate Banking (“RECB”) team, you will join RBC Capital Markets (“RBCCM”) to assist members of the RECB team in the origination, structuring, execution, administration, and management of secured and unsecured corporate revolvers and term loans, construction financing, acquisition bridge financing, capital call / subscription receipt facilities, derivative facilities and commercial mortgages to a portfolio of RBCCM’s institutional real estate clients.

RECB is RBCCM’s principal lending platform focused on real estate finance products supporting institutional firms and top tier operating partners in Canada. Our mandate includes the origination of all key types of credit capital to finance all major commercial real estate product types, principally in Canada, but including the US, Europe and other regions where our clients operate.

RECB provides comprehensive debt capital market solutions for the world’s premier real estate owners and sponsors, focusing on groups with significant operating experience, capital, market knowledge, and a history of success. The three core client types that RECB markets to are as follows: (i) publicly traded real estate investment trusts; (ii) Canadian pension fund subsidiaries which are focused on commercial real estate ownership and management (principally, the wholly owned subsidiaries of the “Maple 8” pension funds), and (iii) real estate private equity and asset management clients.  With a small team of dedicated professionals, RECB presently oversees over C$12.0B of loan commitments. 

What will you do?

  • Assist in the structuring, delivery (pitch through to deal close) and monitoring of syndicated and bilateral loan transactions.
  • Preparation of credit submissions and other documentation related to the transaction approval process (including assistance related to loan syndications, pipeline management, single name strategies and exceptions committee papers)
  • Undertake loan and borrower diligence including financial statement analysis, review of third-party prepared reports (appraisal, environmental, building condition assessments, etc.), property cash flow modeling in Argus and Excel, market research, and asset tours.
  • Assist in loan closing process including coordination with clients and external counsel, review of legal documents, and coordinating loan funding.
  • Assistance with internal credit administration, including monitoring of the team’s loan portfolio performance and market/industry conditions. This will also include interacting with the Group Risk Management and Credit Transaction Management teams. 
  • Assist the VP and Associates in underwriting commercial mortgage annual reviews, as well as renewals, extensions and amendments of existing credit facilities. 
  • Liaise with back office functions connected to, for example, wires, payments, repayments, loan closings, mortgage fundings, document collection, settlements, LC’s etc.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Degree with a focus in Business, Economics, Mathematics or quantitative fields 
  • Prior internship(s) or co-op placement(s) that provide experience related to the role, such as internships/co-ops working in commercial real estate, real estate lending, investment banking, and/or finance.
  • Good understanding of commercial real estate fundamentals
  • Solid financial, credit and accounting skills
  • Presentation and client skills
  • Solid analytical and technical skills
  • Some knowledge of Capital Markets products 
  • Interest in commercial real estate financing, knowledge of major market players on the client side and an awareness of industry trends which are affecting broader market conditions
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills

Compensation for this position (including salary and discretionary/variable payments) will be determined by factors, including but not limited to candidate's experience, skills, registration status, performance, individual goals, market conditions, and business needs.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is:

$75,000.00 - $100,000.00
