About the Role

As part of Nu Mexico's AML Ops team, you'll be on the front line of protecting our financial ecosystem — detecting suspicious activity, stopping money laundering, and ensuring our operations stay fully compliant with Mexican regulations. This isn't just a compliance role: it's a direct contribution to building a fairer, more ethical financial system for millions of people.

You'll work with our transaction monitoring system to investigate AML alerts, evaluate customer risk profiles, and report findings to the relevant authorities — including the UIF, CNBV, and SHCP. Your work directly shapes the integrity of Nu Mexico and contributes to the country's fight against financial crime.

You'll bring precision, resilience, and a proactive mindset to a fast-moving regulatory environment. You understand that bureaucracy and process discipline are part of the job — and you know how to balance rigorous compliance with a commitment to the best possible customer experience.

If you believe that financial institutions can and should be a force for good in society, this role is for you.

You'll be responsible for

  • Investigate AML alerts, financial transactions, and account data generated by our transaction monitoring system — analyzing patterns, identifying suspicious situations, and delivering clear, documented recommendations (Report to UIF, Cancel, escalate, etc.).
  • Prepare and escalate complete investigation files to the AML Forum (Comité de Comunicación y Control), ensuring all cases are thoroughly supported and ready for decision-making.
  • Report money-laundering and terrorism financing activity to relevant authorities (SHCP, CNBV, UIF) with precision and timeliness, including submission of suspicious activity reports (SAR/ROI).
  • Conduct thorough customer risk assessments — evaluating risk profiles and applying enhanced due diligence (EDD) and customer due diligence (CDD) processes accordingly.
  • Drive quality reviews across the AML Ops team — evaluate process deficiencies, assess control measures, identify gaps, and recommend corrective actions to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Apply FIU typologies, support binding list discard operations, and provide guidance on sanctions screening and KYC processes.
  • Partner with legal, compliance, and risk management teams to minimize money-laundering exposure and strengthen Nu's overall financial crime prevention framework.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the regulatory framework supporting Nu Mexico's growth plan, staying current with AML/FT laws, industry standards, and emerging regulatory changes.

We are looking for a person who has

Required

  • Experience in AML compliance, financial crime investigation, or regulatory operations in a financial institution.
  • Solid analytical skills — able to turn complex transactional data into actionable, well-documented recommendations.
  • Proven experience with regulatory reporting, including suspicious activity reports (SAR/ROI) to Mexican financial authorities.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing deadlines, and stay composed in a constantly evolving regulatory environment.
  • Clear and effective communication skills in Spanish and/or English, both written and verbal.
  • Strong integrity and discretion when handling sensitive customer and financial information.

Nice to have

  • CNBV certification, or in-depth knowledge of Mexican AML regulations (SHCP, CNBV, UIF), including freezing, unfreezing, and fund transfer rules.
  • Experience monitoring transactional AML alerts across banking products (Credit Card, Savings, Remittances, Investments) and/or in compliance roles related to AML.
  • Familiarity with Banking & Sofipo regulations and KYC/sanctions screening processes related to AML.
  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Administration, Finance, Economic Sciences, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Google Sheets, Looker, SQL, or Python for data analysis and reporting.
