Compensation

Hourly base pay rate is $22.02 - $33.08/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Description

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is proud to offer paid summer internships for Photojournalism interns. These internships provide hands-on experience in a fast-paced, modern newsroom serving audiences across Atlanta, Georgia, and the South. 

Program Details 

  • 12-week program, mid-May through early August 2026 

  • In-office, based in our Midtown office in Atlanta 

  • Interns should expect to work the Fourth of July weekend and occasional additional weekends 

  • Internships are temporary positions; no full-time employment is guaranteed 

Eligibility 

  • Rising college junior, senior, or graduate student 

  • We also accept applicants who have graduated within six months of the internship start 

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without current or future sponsorship

Photojournalism Intern 

The Photojournalism Intern works with AJC’s Visuals Team to create compelling visual journalism across platforms. This intern will contribute to daily assignments, features, and enterprise storytelling while learning professional newsroom visual workflows. 

This role is ideal for a student who is passionate about photography, storytelling, and journalistic integrity. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Capture and edit photo assignments for digital and print 

  • Support visual storytelling projects 

  • Write basic captions and metadata 

  • Collaborate with reporters and editors 

  • Learn professional newsroom visual workflows 

Qualifications 

  • Photojournalism experience required 

  • Strong visual eye and journalistic integrity 

  • Passion for photography and storytelling 

  • Understanding of composition and framing 

  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and other editing tools (Photo Mechanic, Lightroom, etc.) 

  • Basic caption writing skills 

  • Knowledge of AP style 

  • Familiarity with Canon equipment preferred
