The primary purpose of this position is to to test, troubleshoot, repair and modify aircraft fuel distribution systems, repair leaks of external/integrated tanks, and provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth therein.

Major Duties:

  • Receives work document(s) or oral instructions regarding problem with aircraft fuel system.
  • Troubleshoots integral fuel tanks, using leak path analysis and other test procedures such as pressure checks, vacuum checks, dye injection checks, helium and argon gas checks, etc., to determine the source of fuel leaks.
  • Troubleshoots fuel cells to determine location of leaks. After defueling, removes tank access door and conducts purging operation using approved equipment.
  • Accomplishes modifications and prepares components for storage or shipment. Prepares effective training plans to maximize Reserve training.
  • In performing duties uses a variety of common hand tools, combustible and toxic gas indicators, torque wrenches, leak detectors, pressure gauges, manometers, powered tools such as drills and pneumatic wrenches.

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200 Fluid Systems Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of an Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision; WG-8268-10 Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic, WG-8200 Fluid Systems Maintenance Family. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the trade. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data. 2. Ability to install aircraft pneudraulic systems, equipment or accessories. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities and limitations of aircraft pneudraulic systems. 3. Ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment. Ability to test complete pneudraulic systems. 4. Ability to overhaul, repair or fabricate aircraft pneudraulic equipment. Ability to calibrate aircraft pneudraulic equipment. 5. Ability to troubleshoot aircraft pneudraulic equipment of moderate complexity. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders. 6. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. The incumbent must obtain and retain the appropriate security clearance level designated for the position. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment. Drug Test requirement was modified with AFI 90-508, Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program, 28 August 2014; Certified Current 18 December 2015 which supersedes AFI 44-107, 7 April 2010. Positions covered by this SPD must be reviewed for proper "Testing Designated Position (TDP)" coding to comply with the AF Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program (AFI 90-508). Drug testing is a condition of employment. The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. Performs other duties as assigned. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds). Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs). Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing (without aid). Must be free from claustrophobia.
