Job Summary: The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic plans and lays out the work to be performed on a particular task such as ordering of material to construct and install duct work in a critical patient care area. The tasks assigned are more complex in nature and require a broad knowledge of equipment and systems, an extensive knowledge of A.C. and D.C. theory, and a Universal Refrigerant Certification

Duties of the Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic include but are not limited to: Skilled in troubleshooting complex air conditioning and refrigeration systems of unusual compressor arrangements and theories. Exercises significantly more judgement and independence in determining the methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Skill in interpreting drawings, specifications, schematics, operator and parts manuals, etc of varying degrees of complexity for complete systems such as the air conditioning equipment for MRI space. Ability to prepare duct work diagrams in planning and laying out work. Knowledge and ability in pipefitting, electrical and plumbing trades in order to properly install such equipment as steam regulators, air regulators, refrigerant driers, ice machines, water fountains etc. Plan and lay out the work to be performed on a particular task such as ordering of material to construct and install duck work in a critical care area. Ability to install duck work and filtration devices such as HEPA filters in critical areas such as Bone Marrow Transplant, MICU, SICU, and highly contagious areas associated with TB and HIV positive patients. Practical knowledge of the principles underlying the work and other technical knowledge such as sheet metal work, electronic theory and design. Comprehensive trade knowledge of electrical theory (A.C. and D.C.), principles, elements, and systems operations. Ability to use practical knowledge in the maintenance computerized systems such as fire alarm duct detectors, refrigeration alarms, and HVAC ( heating, ventilation, air conditioning) **The incumbent must possess and maintain a Universal Refrigerant Certification. A legible copy of your current, valid certification must be submitted with your application in order to be considered.** Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD07279A Physical Requirements: Handles and carries tools, equipment and testing devices rarely weighing over 50 pounds. May use platforms or scaffolding equipment to repair hard to reach parts. Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to heat, restricted ventilation and poor illumination in areas such as equipment rooms. Incumbent is exposed to all weather conditions when working outside (Parking Areas, roof, etc.). Incumbent is exposed to various hazardous materials in the course of performing work assignments. They are provided protective clothing, equipment, and safety devices for personal protection. The equipment rooms are above the allowable decibel rating and hearing protection is provided. Hazardous gases are in the work environment during various tasks. Respiratory protection is provided for the incumbent.
