What you'll be doing

In this role, you will be a key member of the Real Estate Secured Lending Advanced Analytics team within Risk Analytics and Credit Decisioning (RACD). As an AI Scientist for RESL Credit Risk, you will lead the development and implementation of agentic AI projects, advanced machine learning models, and strategies that support the sustainable performance of the RESL portfolio in alignment with CIBC’s retail risk appetite. You will operate with a high degree of independence, applying your deep subject matter expertise and sound judgment to resolve complex issues and drive impactful decisions. Additionally, you will serve as the primary point of contact for RESL AI Risk initiatives, with a focus on agentic AI systems, end-to-end process and model flow leveraging Databricks.

How you’ll succeed

  • AI & Machine Learning Innovation – Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI and agentic AI solutions, including machine learning and deep learning models, to solve complex business problems and drive automation within RESL credit risk analytics.

  • Strategic Portfolio Oversight – Lead the development and execution of advanced quantitative modeling and analytics strategies to monitor portfolio performance, interpret complex data, and proactively identify and forecast key portfolio risk trends.

  • Databricks Process & Model Flow – Architect, implement, and optimize end-to-end model development workflows in Databricks, ensuring seamless integration, reproducibility, and scalability of AI/ML models.

  • Strategy Development – Direct the design and implementation of acquisition and account management strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and optimizing risk-reward tradeoffs for all retail lending products through rigorous champion/challenger methodologies.

  • Subject Matter Expertise – Serve as a trusted subject matter expert in agentic AI, machine learning, and RESL credit risk analytics, providing guidance and insight on complex issues, models, and strategies to support business objectives.

  • Project Management – Lead RESL advanced analytics and AI projects from conception to implementation, ensuring successful delivery and measurable impact.

  • Stakeholder Management – Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with senior management, cross-functional teams, and external partners to identify business opportunities, resolve complex issues, and drive strategic initiatives to successful completion.

Who you are

  • You have advanced analytics and AI experience. You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as analytics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline. You bring over 5 years of progressive experience in data analytics and machine learning, with a strong background in retail credit risk management, ideally within the banking industry.

  • You’re an expert in agentic AI and machine learning. You have hands-on experience developing, deploying, and monitoring agentic AI systems, and you’ve built and managed complex machine learning models for real-world applications, preferably in financial services.

  • You have technical mastery in Python and Databricks. You’re highly skilled in Python and have extensive experience with Databricks, including managing end-to-end process and model flows. You’re comfortable with large-scale data processing, model orchestration, and applying MLOps best practices.

  • You’re a collaborative leader and communicator. You have a proven track record of leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams in a supportive environment. You empower others to achieve their best and excel at explaining complex ideas and recommendations to diverse audiences, effectively influencing stakeholders to drive meaningful change.

  • You bring domain knowledge in real estate secured lending. It’s an asset if you have a strong understanding of real estate secured lending practices, credit risk analytics, and regulatory considerations relevant to mortgage and secured lending portfolios.

  • You have an ownership mindset. You’re results-driven, take initiative, and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership in your work. You’re motivated to achieve goals and deliver impactful outcomes.
