About Surface Labs
Surface Labs is an applied AI lab building AI-native infrastructure for B2B go-to-market teams. We operate two products today:
- Lead Operations Center: unifies lead capture, qualification, routing, follow-ups, and long-term nurture so marketers spend 80% less time on manual ops and more time converting leads into revenue.
- Content Operations Center: AEO/GEO monitoring, AI search visibility tracking, and AI-powered content pipelines that help B2B brands dominate ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot results.
We're live in production with Surface AI agents processing 50K+ leads monthly, are backed by YC/Garry Tan and Dharmesh Shah (co-founder of HubSpot), and just doubled our team size in the last 2 months across Engineering, Design, and GTM.
The Role
You'll be our GTM Engineer Intern, the hybrid builder who writes code to drive revenue. You'll build automations, enrichment pipelines, outbound systems, and AI agents that generate qualified meetings and closed deals for Surface Labs.
We give you the tools. We give you the ICP. We give you the brand and the product. Your job: ship GTM systems that actually generate pipeline and close revenue.
If you can do that, you get paid commission on every meeting and every deal your systems drive. If you can do it consistently, you convert to a full-time GTM Engineer role with a real base salary, equity, and ongoing commission.
You'll use Clay, Claude, Apollo, Instantly, Smartlead, HubSpot APIs, Playwright, Puppeteer, and Python/TypeScript to build the GTM systems most startups pay consultants $20K/mo to set up. Except you'll ship them in a week.
What You'll Actually Do
- Build enrichment + outbound pipelines in Clay that target YC founders, Series A to C B2B SaaS, and our ICP
- Write scripts in Python/TypeScript/Playwright to scrape, enrich, and qualify leads at scale
- Build AI agents (using Claude API) that personalize outbound at 1,000+ messages/day with 10%+ reply rates
- Wire up HubSpot, Apollo, Smartlead, Instantly, and other GTM tools into automated workflows
- Run live outbound experiments and iterate weekly
- Build internal dashboards that track meetings booked, pipeline generated, and deals influenced
You're not writing code for code's sake. You're shipping systems that generate revenue.
Who You Are
- Based in the US (SF Bay Area preferred) or India (any city)
- 1+ years writing code (college projects, side projects, freelance all count). Python, TypeScript, or both
- Comfortable with Claude, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools
- Interested in GTM, sales, and how B2B companies actually grow, not just engineering
- Have built or played with Clay, Apollo, Instantly, HubSpot, Smartlead, Playwright, Puppeteer, or similar
- Ship daily, measure everything, don't wait for permission
- Comfortable betting on yourself. This is commission-only during the internship
- Students, recent grads, career switchers, all welcome
Bonus: You've run outbound campaigns yourself, built a scraper that actually worked, shipped a side project on Product Hunt, or interned at a B2B SaaS before.
Comp
During the 3-month internship (pure commission):
- We give you the full GTM stack: Clay, Apollo, Smartlead, Instantly, HubSpot, Claude API, all covered
- We give you the ICP, brand assets, and messaging frameworks
- You get paid commission on every meeting and deal your systems drive
Commission structure:
- US-based interns:
- $150 per qualified meeting booked from systems you built
- $750 per meeting that converts to opportunity
- 10% of first-year ACV on every deal your pipelines directly sourced
- Realistic OTE if you're hitting: $120K to $220K/year
- India-based interns:
- ₹4,000 per qualified meeting booked from systems you built
- ₹20,000 per meeting that converts to opportunity
- 10% of first-year ACV on every deal your pipelines directly sourced
- Realistic earnings if you're hitting: ₹200K to ₹400K/month
On conversion to full-time GTM Engineer (end of month 3):
- Base salary: $100K to $160K (US) / ₹20L to ₹35L per year (India)
- Commission continues: meetings + opportunities + deal ACV
- Equity: 0.10% to 0.30%
- Full benefits (health, dental, vision)
If your systems aren't generating pipeline by month 2, we have an honest conversation and part ways amicably. No hard feelings. This role is hard and not everyone hits.
