The Opportunity:

As an AFRICOM Joint Operations Planner, you will provide expert advice, coordinate component staff efforts and conduct theater-level planning to assist the geographic combatant command with meeting its strategic and campaign objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, plan and execute major projects related to Joint Operations in large-scale military operations.

  • Conduct mission analysis, develop options, write papers, and provide recommendations to improve complex missions and programs.

  • Plan and present strategic and operational options to AFRICOM leaders.

  • Coordinate and review projects for quality, consistency, and compliance with objectives.

  • Apply knowledge of the joint force and the joint planning processes.

  • Utilize Joint Operations Planning and Execution System (JOPES) data as needed.

  • Deliver oral presentations and written communications to key decision-makers.

  • Manage priorities and initiate actions based on guidelines from Functional Branch Chiefs.

  • Develop and improve administrative effectiveness of future operations.

  • Maintain relationships with the Joint Staff, USAFRICOM Command Group, USG Interagency contacts, and Coalition planners.

  • Participate in joint and combined conferences and working groups.

  • Use the Joint Planning Process to build plans and products supporting AFRICOM's objectives.

  • Coordinate with AFRICOM Staff, service component commands, and other partners to refine courses of action.

  • Serve as an Action Officer for high-priority plans and issues.

  • Participate in working groups and operational planning teams to achieve campaign plan objectives.

  • Interface with the Commander/Command Group, providing briefings and written products as required.


Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of directly related military experience; OR 15 years of directly related military experience.

  • Subject Matter Expertise with the Joint Planning Process and the Joint Family of Plans

  • Experience with JOPES data

  • Current Top Secret/SCI (Specialized Compartmented Information) Security Clearance.


Desired:

  • 15 years of staff experience at the brigade level or higher including 3 years of experience as an Operations Planner at JS, OSD, CCMD, Component, Service, or Agency Staff.

  • 3 years of experience supporting planning and operations in the AFRICOM AOR.

Pay Range:

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$90,300 - 189,600 USD
