The primary purpose of this position is to Serve as a professional aerospace engineer in support of the acquisition, development, or sustainment of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment.

Major Duties:

  • -Performs professional aerospace engineering work in the areas of aviation, aerospace defense systems, components, and/or associated equipment in support of the acquisition, development, and/or sustainment of weapon systems and subsystems. Plans and carries out assignments for projects concerning (Satellite Systems Management, Operations and Ground System Support) which entail a variety of complicating factors, interaction with other engineering specializations, and consideration of the lifecycle of items/systems. -Employs scientific and engineering principles to design, develop, test, evaluate, and/or determine maintenance requirements. Applies professional knowledge of the field of aerospace engineering to establish requirements for technical objectives and characteristics, and devise and evaluate concepts for design approaches such as criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships. -Performs analysis and uses systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches to implement, develop, and document projects or tasks. Evaluates procedures and recommends innovative techniques and methods to achieve goals. In support of engineering reviews and/or panels, develops evaluations and technical justifications of feasibility, practicability, and technical soundness. Recognizing priorities as well as the urgency of situations, develops metrics and performs analysis to ascertain needed changes or modification to production methods, procedures, and/or approaches. -Determines the business and technical needs of customers. Applies emerging technology and business practices to develop and implement a course of action, validate and direct resources, and integrate logistics and/or acquisition functions to implement plans. Prepares reports and conducts technical presentations for planning, implementation, and corrective action. Provides status and advisory services to superiors on problems, issues, and projects in assigned program areas, and reports significant findings and recommendations to management in a timely manner.

Qualifications: This is a GG-07T12 position in the Cyber Excepted Service (CES). The GG-07T12 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GG-07T12 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions BASIC REQUIREMENT: A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1. Professional registration or licensure, 2. Written Test, 3. Specified academic courses, 4. Related curriculum. Examples of creditable experience include: Broad professional knowledge of a wide range of aerospace engineering theories, principles, practices, concepts, processes, and techniques sufficient to determine and/or execute actions for a wide range of assignments involving project development and execution. Knowledge of engineering standards and methods to formulate, execute, advise on, and explain recommendations or solutions to modify standard practices, equipment, devices, systems, processes, and techniques and resolve a wide variety of complex problems. Knowledge of advanced processes and practices to provide oversight and direction; to adapt precedents or existing strategies to meet unusual needs or special demands; and to prepare, present, and evaluate plans, designs, reports, and correspondence. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of professional aerospace engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development and execution. 2. Knowledge of air-vehicles, ground systems, and support equipment sufficient to plan, design, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and oversee the development and/or sustainment of aerospace vehicles and systems. 3. Knowledge of other engineering disciplines and standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures. 4. Ability to analyze data and establish requirements for technical objectives and characteristics. 5. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies. 6. Ability to use computer applications in support of planning, designing, analysis, and reporting. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONT'D: 1. Position is designated critical-sensitive and incumbent must be able to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed. 2. Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
