Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Deputy Chief Engineering Manager 3  in our Propulsion Systems Business Unit at Promontory and Bacchus, Utah.

Role Description & Responsibilities:

The Deputy Chief Engineering Manager will be responsible for management of the Deputy Chief Engineers over Defense and Commercial Programs. The locations of the Deputy Chief engineers are at the following Utah sites: Promontory, Clearfield, HAFB, and Magna campuses. Emphasis is in communication and coordination with each of the Programs’ Chief Engineers and overall personnel management for the Deputy Chief Engineers. This role will report to the Chief Engineering Director.

Job Duties: 

  • Work closely with each of the Chief Engineers to ensure the Deputy Chief Engineers have the tools, knowledge, and resources to meet the technical and programmatic requirements.

  • Work with Science & Engineering management to assure proper technical support.

  • Provide coaching for leadership behaviors, decision making, and team effectiveness.

  • Lead development discussions, coordinate stretch assignments and opportunities for development with input from the Chief Engineers.

  • Development of individuals and career navigation and guidance.

  • Development of next generation of Chief Engineers.

  • Alignment of department top level goals with those of the organization, program, and individual.

  • HR specific work associated with managing talent/performance.

  • Drive technical excellence (by upholding technical standards for project, managing technical risks, supporting cost goals, and ensuring requirements compliance)

  • Champion company values, including safety, best practices and continuous improvement

Experience Requirements: 

  • BS in Engineering or related field with 12 years experience, or Masters Degree or related field with 10 years experience, PhD in Engineering or related field with 8 years experience.

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 10 years in solid rocket motor design and manufacture experience.

  • Supervisory: Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of formal or informal supervisory/ management/ team management/ leadership experience

  • Ability to travel:  Travel expectation of 10%+

  • Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacture

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at the time of application.

Experience Preferred:

  • Engineering leadership experience in solid rocket motor development, qualification, and production cycles

  • Demonstrated credibility with internal and external customers

  • Leadership or management experience.

  • Strong management skills to develop and grow talent.

  • Strong understanding and broad application of PS engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)

  • Management of engineering scope as it pertains to budgeting and participation in EAC reviews

  • An understanding of program management practices: establishing and executing to budgets and schedules.

  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated team leadership skills - leader of significant technical projects or investigations and management of multiple program tasks to schedule and budget

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
