Job Title:
Advanced Scientist – CAS&PE
Summary:
This is a full-time advanced scientist position in Momentive’s CAS/PE, Plastics & Electronics segment, for developing & testing new plastics additives & formulations, and generating application promotion package with focus on flame retardant application and other future projects.
Responsibilities Include:
The candidate will be responsible for:
- Maintain a safety mindset and follow site safety policies & procedures.
- Effectively manage multiple projects, ensuring clear alignment of timelines, goals and deliverables within business and market needs.
- Independently develop and optimize product formulation to drive business growth in line with company’s R&D process and system.
- Independently execute experiments using technical skills, author complete project summary/technical reports, and understand basic statistical analysis.
- Generate IP and write IDL's (journals, patents, trade secrets).
- Proactively identify innovative opportunities to support segment business growth.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional units & project teams to solve problems including sales, marketing and other supporting functions.
- Work closely with other senior scientists and engineers globally.
- Direct interaction with customers on promotion, technical service, problem solving etc.
- Other tasks assigned by managers.
Qualifications:
The following are required for the role
- Technical PhD with job experience (1-2 years), or M.S./M Tech with research/work experience (3-4 years), majoring in chemical engineering, chemistry, or materials science & engineering. Industrial experience in plastics processing (extrusion & injection molding, etc.) and testing.
- Experience in material property characterization tools, including Instron, FTIR, GC, GC-MS, NMR, DSC, etc.
- Has the ability to prioritize and execute tasks independently, able to comprehend the technical aspects of the project, basics of business and financial acumen.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years of industrial experience and expertise with plastics processing, including extrusion and injection molding.
- Expertise in flame retardant formulation, mechanism, and performance.
- Basic understanding of product/applications of organic silicone chemistry and materials.
- Direct experience with customer interfacing or technical supports.
- Sound IP awareness (e.g., patent filing).
- Good communication skills and fluent English.
