Job Details:

Mercer University is searching for an Admissions Counselor on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.


 

Responsibilities:

Working independently under the supervision of the Director of Graduate Admissions, the Admissions Counselor (Graduate) is responsible for meeting or exceeding graduate recruitment goals for the College of Professional Advancement. This position will articulate the mission and values of the university to prospective students.  Moreover, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for the overall coordination of admissions and retention for graduate students, including scheduling and implementing appointments and events. The Admissions Counselor works regularly with Admissions and Marketing colleagues, the academic department chairs, Associate Deans, Dean of College of Professional Advancement, all academic program directors, as well as staff members engaged in Admissions, Financial Planning, the Registrars' offices, Alumni and Development, Student Services, and Career Services functions.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Education, Business, Rhetoric/Communication, Leadership, Liberal Arts, or another related field is required. Candidates with a master's degree and/or prior admissions experience are highly desirable.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier as this position requires travel.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knows how to use Microsoft Office products to maintain accurate prospect management. 

  • Polished presentation/public speaking skills, fine-tuned organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to conduct interviews and presentations to prospective students and their families. 

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written abilities that positively reflect upon Mercer University, which are vital to the success of this position.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time in order to meet and exceed set goals, and willingness to go beyond what is required to meet goals.

  • Availability to travel to event locations (sometimes driving long distances requiring overnight stays) during early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed. (Ability to be insurable by University's carrier.)

  • Capability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Demonstrates a dynamic and approachable personality with the ability to engage and connect with a diverse student body.

  • Ability to understand marketing and advertising development and strategies.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with appropriate technologies.

  • Ability to be dedicated to the mission of Mercer University and to strengthening the University’s relationship with the internal and external University community.
