Salary: $3,798 – $5,193 ($4,051 - $5,554 PERS)

We are seeking an Administrative Specialist 1 to join our Pupil Transportation & Fingerprinting team at the Oregon Department of Education. This is a permanent position represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 

 

This position follows a hybrid work model. Onsite presence will be required when business or operational needs are best supported in person, such as collaboration, training, or work that requires access to onsite resources. Employees approved to work remotely must have a reliable and secure internet connection and maintain a professional work environment that supports productivity. While working remotely, employees are expected to maintain the same level of performance, responsiveness, communication, and availability as they would in the office. 

 

What you will do! 

 

Be the primary contact for all the processing of activity driver type 10 applications. In addition, this position is cross trained in other administrative tasks and application processing to support this unit where needed. Works under the direction of the unit administrative team lead worker. 

 

You will have the opportunity to assist our agency's customers at school districts, their contracted transportation companies, and other educational institutions by providing friendly and compassionate customer service through email, phone, and occasionally in person. 

 

Typical duties include: 

 

  • Processing Type 10 driver applications and delivering results. 

  • Reviewing qualifications of applicants and making decisions based on driving and criminal histories. 

  • Receiving customer contact by email, phone, or other channels and providing guidance. 

  • Coordinating with coworkers regarding daily work and coverage.

Minimum Qualifications: ODE reviews resumes to determine whether applicants meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Two years of secretarial or basic administrative support experience that includes records processing, generating documents, and gathering and sorting data;  

OR 

An associate degree in general office occupations and one year of experience with records processing, generating documents, and gathering and sorting data;  

OR 

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and administrative processes. 

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
