The Douglas County School District is seeking Elementary Band/Orchestra Instructors for its before- and after-school music program in schools serving 5th and 6th grade students in the Castle Rock area. Positions are available for band, orchestra, or both, depending on the candidate’s experience and interest.
Instructors provide on-site instruction for classes twice weekly for roughly 30 weeks per academic year to beginning and intermediate (1st–2nd year) band/orchestra students under the guidance of Program Coordinators, who also serve as the area’s middle and high school band and orchestra teachers. Instructors collaborate with coordinators, fellow instructors, and school staff—including general music teachers and administrators—to support curriculum alignment, student progress, and program growth. They assist with recruiting future students and help maintain accurate records to track enrollment, student progress, and instructional needs. Instructors work with program coordinators and instrument rental vendors to help ensure equitable student access to quality instruments, repairs, and other resources.
Instructors also support concerts, instrument try-outs, and other program events, and are expected to attend monthly meetings to establish a unified curriculum, plan events, address program goals, and share instructional best practices. To ensure high-quality instruction and student achievement, this position may require additional time dedicated to planning, organization, and preparation beyond regular instructional hours.
