Job Description:

An Activity Sponsor is responsible for supervising and supporting a specific extracurricular club, organization, or activity. This role involves mentoring students, overseeing club activities, and ensuring that all events and meetings are conducted in a safe and organized manner. The Activity Sponsor works closely with students, faculty, and administration to promote student engagement and development.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
- Education or advanced training with relevance to to the club/activity strongly desired

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

The Douglas County School District is seeking Elementary Band/Orchestra Instructors for its before- and after-school music program in schools serving 5th and 6th grade students in the Castle Rock area. Positions are available for band, orchestra, or both, depending on the candidate’s experience and interest.

Instructors provide on-site instruction for classes twice weekly for roughly 30 weeks per academic year to beginning and intermediate (1st–2nd year) band/orchestra students under the guidance of Program Coordinators, who also serve as the area’s middle and high school band and orchestra teachers. Instructors collaborate with coordinators, fellow instructors, and school staff—including general music teachers and administrators—to support curriculum alignment, student progress, and program growth. They assist with recruiting future students and help maintain accurate records to track enrollment, student progress, and instructional needs. Instructors work with program coordinators and instrument rental vendors to help ensure equitable student access to quality instruments, repairs, and other resources.

Instructors also support concerts, instrument try-outs, and other program events, and are expected to attend monthly meetings to establish a unified curriculum, plan events, address program goals, and share instructional best practices. To ensure high-quality instruction and student achievement, this position may require additional time dedicated to planning, organization, and preparation beyond regular instructional hours.

Qualifications:
* Experience in instrumental music education, especially teaching beginning and intermediate ensembles
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
* Preferred: prior classroom experience, classroom management skills and background in instrumental performance, pedagogy or related areas

Responsibilities:

Record Keeping:
●    Maintain records of club activities, membership, and achievements.
●    Ensure all necessary documentation is completed and submitted in a timely manner

Student Mentorship:
●    Provide guidance and support to student leaders and members.
●    Encourage student participation and foster leadership development.
●    Assist students in setting goals and planning activities.
 

Budget Management:
●    Assist in managing the budget for the club or activity.
●    Oversee fundraising activities and ensure proper allocation of funds.
●    Maintain accurate, transparent financial records and submit necessary reports.
 

Club/Activity Supervision:
●    Oversee the activities of a specific club or organization, ensuring adherence to school policies and procedures.
●    Attend all club meetings, events, and activities.
●    Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
 

Communication:
●    Serve as a liaison between the club, school administration, and parents.
●    Communicate important information to club members and parents.
●    Promote the club’s activities through school announcements, newsletters, and social media.
 

Event Planning and Coordination:
●   Lead the planning, organization, and execution of club events, meetings, and activities.
●    Coordinate logistics such as scheduling, venue setup, and materials needed.
●    Ensure all events are well-organized and comply with school policy and district regulations.
