Job Description
Job Summary:
The Activity Security Representative is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing security policies and procedures to ensure compliance with government regulations and directives, specifically DoDM 5205.07, ICD 705, 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM), and other applicable security protocols. This role will coordinate with the Department of Defense (DoD) agencies and other relevant organizations to protect sensitive information and ensure mission success.
This position requires Special Access Program (SAP) access, and experience with SAPs is required. The ASR will support AV CSSOs in the safeguarding of classified programs while collaborating with various external and internal stakeholders to ensure a secure and compliant environment.
Core Responsibilities:
Program Security Management:
Establish, implement, and maintain a comprehensive security program for multiple DoD and/or Intelligence Community (IC) elements. Review and collaborate on prime and subcontractor DD Form 254s and applicable addendums/attachments to ensure that security measures appropriately protect classified information across multiple classification levels (collateral, SCI, SAP, multi-level classification).
Physical and Technical Security Oversight:
Assist with physical and technical security measures, including TEMPEST and Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM). Ensure compliance with regulations for the handling, safeguarding, transmission, and destruction of classified information per DD254 and other applicable regulations. Assist with management of intrusion detection system (IDS), access control management, and guard response.
Facility Accreditation and Maintenance:
Assist with proper accreditation of secure facilities by maintaining facility diagrams, UL 2050 certifications, checklists, TEMPEST compliance, and mitigation plans. Apply ICD/ICS 705 standards to the design and construction of secure spaces as needed. Previous experience with self-inspections and formal security compliance inspections desired.
Personnel Security Management:
Manage personnel security processes, including nomination interviews, processing investigative requests, and managing personnel security records in systems like DISS (Defense Information System for Security) and JADE (Joint Access Database Environment). Ensure the execution of legally binding NDAs (e.g., SF 312, SF 4414).
Security Education and Training:
Provide initial and ongoing security education, training, and awareness programs for technical staff operating in secure environments. Issue periodic notifications to indoctrinated personnel regarding unauthorized disclosure awareness, classification management, and security reporting requirements.
Visitor Coordination and Management:
Assist with the incoming and outgoing visitor approval process, including handling Visitor Approval Requests (VARs), to ensure that only authorized individuals gain access to sensitive or classified areas.
COMSEC Custodian:
Manage COMSEC (Communications Security) material and ensure compliance with safeguarding protocols. Account for and control COMSEC information, oversee periodic software updates, and work with the primary COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO), Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) or Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to maintain documentation and inventory.
Team Collaboration and Decision-Making:
Collaborate with program security team and provide input for overall decision making. Provide guidance and recommendations based on security requirements and ensure adherence to security regulations.
Morale and Team Building:
Participate in and support team-building events and morale activities, helping to create a positive, collaborative work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
3-5+ years of experience in Special Access Program (SAP) and/or Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security management.
Technical Experience:
3-5+ years of experience in at least two of the following security disciplines: Industrial or Government Security, Personnel Security, Information Security, Physical Security, or Technical Security.
Proven experience with the security policies and procedures outlined in Intelligence Community (IC) Standards, DoD Manuals & Directives, NISPOM, and other related government regulations.
Communication Skills:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing proficiency.
System Proficiency:
Hands-on experience using security and clearance management systems such as DISS (Defense Information System for Security) and JADE (Joint Access Database Environment).
Certifications/Training:
Completion of the following courses is highly desirable: Special Access Programs (SAP) Overview, SAP Personnel Security Official (SPO) Training, ICD 705 Course Certificates (for secure facility design and accreditation), SFPC, SPSC, etc.
COMSEC Custodian Experience:
Experience in managing COMSEC information and ensuring its compliance with established protocols.
Clearance Level
The salary range for this role is:
$71,805 - $101,850AeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
ITAR Requirement:
This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
