Overview
Directs and supervises the CPE Level 1 Chaplain Interns, which provides orientation, education, and training in the Riverside Regional Medical Center, long term care facilities and acute care hospitals in the Northern Neck and the Middle Peninsula. Collaborates with Department Director and staff preceptors in matters affecting CPE Level 1 Intern educational issues. Other responsibilities include documentation on the ACPE accreditation website, interviewing student applicants, rounding with mentors at the clinical sites, and reviewing the student handbook conducting self in manner which is congruent with cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion principals.

What you will do
  • May minister to the spiritual needs of RHS patients, families, employees when on campus assisting in orientation and education of CPE Level 1 Interns.
  • Assists in sacramental ministry as appropriate; provides referral to chaplains or community faith leaders for requested rituals as needed.
  • Provides direction, support, and participates in educational program development and training for the department including the Computer Based Learning, Professional Advisory Committee.
  • Prepares and maintains records oversight for Level 1 Interns. Records patient care activity in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • May assist with policy decisions and revisions that impact the health system.
  • Facilitates a collaborative environment that provides teamwork and customer service to patients and maximizes interdepartmental cooperation for positive results. Demonstrates competency and skills in the proactive identification and follow-through of issues to include resolution.
  • Demonstrates respect, concern, and empathy for patients/families/customers with diverse cultural and emotional needs.
  • Teaches interns how to provide spiritual care and spiritual assessments of patients visited and determines that those needs are fulfilled.
  • Assures work is completed within their defined skill sets and utilizes established policies and protocols to perform a variety of procedures and at a high level of detail not requiring close supervision.
  • Demonstrates supervisory skills, organization of work, knowledge of process/procedure for applicable modality(s) and performs independently without close supervision.
  • Audits curriculum and offers peer feedback.

Qualifications

Education
  • Masters Degree, Divinity or Equivalent Education approved by Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or Cognate Group (Required) and
  • Bachelors Degree, Theological studies or related field (Required)

Experience
  • 3-4 years ACPE, NAJC, CASC or NACC Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor (Required)
  • 3-4 years Ordination and endorsement for service as a Clergy/Chaplain/Chaplain Educator/Counselor by appropriate faith community (Required)

Skills and Abilities
  • Must have public speaking skills, organizational skills, cultural competence, patience, ability to actively listen, interpersonal skills, empathy, liturgical planning, crisis intervention experience and interfaith dialogue skills. Must demonstrate ability to learn bereavement and spiritual counseling skills.
  • Must conduct self in manner which is congruent with cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion principals.

Licenses and Certifications
  • ACPE Educator Certification - Association for Clinical Pastoral Education Upon Hire(Required)
  • Board Certified Chaplain - The Association of Professional Chaplains Upon Hire(Preferred)
