Accounts Payable Specialist (Part Time)

A professional services organization is seeking a part-time Accounts Payable Specialist to support internal accounting operations. This is a temporary, part-time opportunity with the potential to convert to a longer-term or expanded role based on performance and business needs. The position is well suited for candidates seeking flexible hours, including professionals reentering the workforce, semi-retired individuals, or those seeking supplemental work.

Position Overview
The Accounts Payable Specialist will support day-to-day AP operations, with a primary focus on invoice processing and the JAMIS accounting system. This is an internal role with no government approval process, and the organization is prepared to move quickly for the right candidate.

Work Schedule and Location
• On-site in Fairfax, Virginia
• Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
• 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
• Approximately 12 to 15 hours per week

Position Type and Compensation
• Temporary, part-time role with potential for extension or conversion

Work Authorization
• U.S. citizenship required due to legal government contract obligations
• Ability to obtain clearance if required
• No active clearance required

Key Responsibilities
• Receive, review, and distribute vendor invoices
• Verify approvals and accurately code invoices using appropriate cost elements and charge numbers
• Enter and process invoices in the JAMIS accounting system, including generation of payments such as checks, direct deposits, and wire transfers
• Research and resolve vendor payment issues and discrepancies
• Reconcile invoices and provide support for materials and services purchased
• Prepare reports and provide general assistance to business management staff as needed
• Perform additional accounting or administrative duties as required

Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior accounts payable experience
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Understanding of three-way matching
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word
• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and employees at all levels
• Experience researching and resolving accounting or payment issues

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with labor processing or account reconciliations
• Experience supporting government contracting environments
• Prior experience using JAMIS
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multitasking environment with frequent interruptions
