North American Mining has an immediate opening for an experienced, driven Accounting Supervisor based in its Medley, Florida office. This is a hands-on supervisory role requiring a strong technical accounting background, with responsibility for performing and reviewing core accounting functions while leading and developing an accounting team. The Accounting Supervisor will actively participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes; prepare and analyze financial results; support internal and external audit activities; perform detailed balance sheet account reconciliations; and ensure the accuracy and integrity of management reporting. In addition, this role will oversee daily accounting operations, provide guidance and review of staff work, ensure compliance with accounting policies and controls, and drive continuous improvement in accounting processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Oversees vendor and customer master data (address book) maintenance and customer contract records to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with internal controls and contractual terms.
  • Supervises accounts payable and receivable functions, including review and posting of AP batches, approval of expense reports, execution of check runs, administration of banking activities (Positive Pay and ACH uploads), posting of customer payments, preparation of cash journals, and monitoring timely and accurate cash application.
  • Manages customer billing activities, including the generation and review of invoices and estimates, ensuring customer statements are prepared and distributed, and leading assigned customer review meetings to present financial results and address inquiries.
  • Performs and oversees the EAM monthly close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Produces and reviews monthly customer financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
  • Analyzes, reconciles, and monitors balance sheet accounts, investigates variances, and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Builds, maintains, and enhances accounting and costing spreadsheets to support financial analysis and reporting.
  • Reviews, approves, and amends workforce payroll timesheets and maintains labor work codes to ensure accurate payroll processing and cost allocation.
  • Oversees fixed asset accounting in JD Edwards, including asset additions and disposals, calculation of depreciation, and preparation and review of monthly depreciation schedules.
  • Develops and implements process improvement initiatives to enhance accounting efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
  • Assists with walkthroughs of control processes and ensures control testing is appropriately designed to address financial and reporting risks.
  • Coordinates annual 1099 processing and generates the 1099’s for qualified suppliers and assists in all phases of mid-year and year-end audits, including preparation of schedules and responses to audit and tax requests.
  • Communicates identified control deficiencies or exceptions in a timely manner and collaborates on root cause analysis and practical remediation recommendations.
  • Directs and advises accountants and accounting technicians on accounting-related matters and provides guidance, assistance, and training to accounting and operational staff.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with mine site staff, customers, and internal departments to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Exercises independent judgment, maintains confidentiality, and makes sound decisions in accordance with company policies.
  • Acts as backup to the Assistant Accounting Manager as needed to ensure continuity of operations and leadership support.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have strong working knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices and terminology, and possess the ability to apply them. 
  • Must be able to communicate such issues verbally and in writing to explain and convey the information. 
  • Must have excellent spreadsheet skills and be computer proficient. 
  • Requires experience with financial systems, such as general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, consolidation, and budgeting.
  • Must have interpersonal skills to work with operations personnel, NACCO personnel, and Dallas Corporate Office personnel.
  • Some travel may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required, Graduate degree preferred
  • Professional accounting experience required (Minimum 5 years)
  • Microsoft Office products proficiency; Excel and JD Edwards.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), required
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) basis, a plus
  • Ability to work under time constraints with a large and diverse group of customers.
