Coinbase Canada is looking for a highly motivated accounting and finance professional to join our Global Controllership team and play a key role in our continued growth and achievement of operational excellence. The Head of Finance, Canada must possess strong accounting, finance, operational and managerial expertise, an ability to communicate and work with various teams inside of Finance (such as Tax, FP&A, Financial Reporting, Treasury, Payroll and Accounts Payable), and a desire to make a meaningful impact on a dynamic, high-growth technology company.

Reporting to the Head of Global Reporting, the Head of Finance, Canada  will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing portions of Coinbase Global’s operational finance and accounting tasks as well as ensuring adherence to the regulatory framework outlined by the Canadian Securities Administration (CSA) for Crypto Trading Platforms (CTPs) and National Instrument 31-103 and the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). The position is designed for a highly-technical individual and will involve collaborating with a multi-national finance organization. This position will directly own the maintenance of the books of account under IFRS and will also include involvement in the close process including preparing and/or reviewing internal and external financial reporting and analyses. The role will require collaboration with various teams across the organization to ensure the complete and accurate delivery of reporting to  senior management and the board of directors. This role will also play a crucial role in process design to include assisting with the implementation of controls and process improvements. This role requires someone with impeccable attention to detail, a financial and analytic mindset, and a strong desire to develop their career at a rapidly growing organization



What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties): 

  • Overseeing the accounting, financial and regulatory reporting and finance functions in Canada and ensuring finance processes operate effectively and accurately, following the Coinbase centralized model,  delivering accurate financial insights into the business.
  • Partnering with the Global accounting team to prepare and/or review assigned month end and quarter end close book close processes, own the Company’s parallel books of accounts maintained in line with IFRS and maintain appropriate reconciliations and valid support for all adjustments.  
  • Responsible for preparation and coordination of financial statements, regulatory reporting,  business forecasts (partnering with FP&A) and other related information for external use (audit, submission to regulators, etc.), and play a leading role in external communication as the representative of the Finance department.
  • Preparation of Coinbase Canada monthly management reporting and analytical review thereof, including reporting and communication to the Board.
  • Acting as a contact point within the company for financial and accounting queries and queries from regulatory authorities relating to the finance function of the firm.
  • Preparing and updating various finance policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring and overseeing the performance of outsourced services by outsourced service providers relating to the finance function and assessing KPIs and SLAs.
  • Active in Coinbase Canada liquidity management and  coordinating closely with the treasury team.
  • Participating  in critical projects, including the transitioning to new external vendors, integration, automation or enhancements.
  • Supporting ad hoc financial information requests and analyses and other special projects as assigned.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements): 

  • 6+ years’ experience as a finance professional at a bank, fin-tech, financial regulatory agency and/or professional service firm serving financial institution clients.
  • 3+ experience working in a regulated entity/environment.
  • Previous Board/senior management level experience, or demonstrated the ability to communicate directly to the Board/senior management.
  • CPA or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of business functions, with an emphasis on senior management and a track record of performing in a management role. Project management experience is essential.
  • Excellent oral and written communication – fluency in English is a key requirement.
  • Capacity to meet deadlines while maintaining quality standards and effective time management.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment within a high growth business.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Knowledge of accounting month-end book close process.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Nice to haves:

  • Experience working in Netsuite, FloQast and Google Suite.Experience working in a SOX control environment.
  • Basic knowledge of digital assets and the crypto economy, or a desire to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and experience working with Snowflake, Looker or similar analytics tools.

Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual base salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility + equity eligibility + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision)

Base salary range shown. Total compensation also includes equity and bonus eligibility and benefits:
$170,000$170,000 CAD
