CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Sr. Accountant assists the Accounting Manager with the Employee Retirement Plan (ERP) audits and Form 5500 tax returns. The Sr. Accountant is involved in the year-end footnotes as it relates to investments. Ensures an effective and efficient workflow, identifies and assists in implementing opportunities for improvement, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and university policy. Reviews investments and limited partnership agreements, and interprets transactions in a clear and concise manner.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for preparation of Retirement Plan special period-end and year-end financial statements.
Analyzes Trustee statement transactions and prepares monthly journal entries for input into the Retirement Plan accounting system.
Prepares year-end related Retirement Plan audit work papers, audit schedules, and financial statements.
Responsible for tracking various large cash transfers of funds to and from investment accounts and reconciles to Trustee statements.
Tracks divested securities to and from separately managed investment accounts.
Interacts directly with key members of the external audit team.
Assists with developing procedures related to the Retirement Plan financial reporting processes and recommends changes as needed.
Prepares Form 5500 tax return and inputs data into the tax software.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting.
Certification and Licensing:
Certified Public Accounting (CPA) preferred. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
Experience:
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. Experience in Financial Reporting is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.
Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.
Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Commitment to excellent customer service and positive teamwork.
Ability to handle stress and work well under pressure.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
Strong experience in preparation and analysis of financial data.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Results oriented and competently manages multiple priorities.
