The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs has (2) full-time opportunities available for an Accountant 2 (Accountant) located at ODVA Headquarters in Salem, Oregon.
These positions are permanent, union represented positions with the Financial Services Department.
Please note: This position may be filled at the Accountant 1 level as an underfill.
In accordance with State HR Policy 40.010.02 – Recruitment and Selection appointments must be merit‑based and consistent with established classification standards. Underfill appointments for represented employees must be structured to ensure the employee is able to meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for the target classification within the established timeframe.
Employees appointed at the Accountant 1 underfill level must successfully meet the MQs for the Accountant 2 classification within 36 months of appointment. Progression is not automatic. Advancement to Accountant 2 requires:

What are we looking for?
Accountant 2 Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government Financial Manager certificate AND two years of accounting experience equivalent to Accountant 1 work to include setting-up ledgers, account codes and controls, and modifying accounting systems;
OR
A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or in any discipline that includes or is supplemented by 32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours from an accredited institution in Accounting AND two years of accounting experience equivalent to Accountant 1 work to include setting-up ledgers, account codes and controls, and modifying accounting systems;
OR
32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours from an accredited institution in Accounting AND four years of related accounting experience to include a) classifying, analyzing, and reconciling financial data and records; b) designing, recommending, and installing modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records; c) preparing financial statements and reports; d) analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances to ensure the legality of financial transactions; and e) analyzing, interpreting, and making recommendations related to accounting transactions, accounts, and account relationships resulting in accounting entries.
Accounting 1 Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government Financial Manager certificate; OR
A bachelor’s degree in accounting; OR
Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university; OR
32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours in Accounting from an accredited institution AND two years of technical, para- professional accounting experience to include: a) classifying, analyzing, and reconciling financial data and records; b) designing, recommending, and installing modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records; c) preparing financial statements and reports; d) analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances to ensure the legality of financial transactions; and e) analyzing, interpreting, and making recommendations related to accounting transactions, accounts and account relationships resulting in accounting entries.

This position requires successful completion of a fingerprint based criminal history background check through the Oregon (LEDS) and National (NCIC) law enforcement data systems. A valid Oregon or Washington State driver’s license is required; must also undergo a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, with ongoing monitoring as a condition of continued employment.

This position will be based out of ODVAs Salem Office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for hybrid (work from home/in office) work schedule. The logistics of hybrid work will need to be worked out with the Hiring Manager prior to your hire and may be changed at any time given specific job duties and business needs. Remote work is evaluated periodically to ensure business needs are being met and can be adjusted at any time. ODVA will provide necessary hardware (laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and cell phone) for an employee to successfully work from home. This position may require some travel to ODVA offices and sites on an as-needed basis. At ODVA sites, you will have access to a workspace, however, it may be shared with other employees.

Work Authorization:
