The Opportunity:

Washington State University's College of Arts & Sciences is now accepting applications for an Academic Program Coordinator in the Department of Sociology. This is an integral role for the the department's commitment to the university’s academic mission: to foster intellectual growth in undergraduate and graduate students. As the Program Coordinator, your primary responsibility is to support overall student development. Your duties will include, but are not limited to, coordinating the graduate program to ensure graduate students reach important milestones (e.g., coordinate admissions, provide guidance to students, schedule master’s exams and PhD defenses, collect and compile data for annual review, and serve as a liaison to the Graduate School). You will be responsible for the academic coordination needed for the department to offer sociology training to undergraduates, schedule courses, add or drop students from courses, assign classrooms, oversee course evaluations, and scholarship and award applications. To ensure smooth functioning of the department, additional job responsibilities include general office and administrative support (e.g., filing, database management, processing annual reviews, greeting visitors, answering phone calls, responding to emails, and other duties as assigned). Based on experience, we are hiring as a Program Coordinator or a Program Assistant.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

This is an on-site/in-person position located in Pullman, WA.


Monthly Salary:

Program Assistant - $3,495.00 to $4,653.00 | Range 39 | Steps A - M

Program Coordinator - $3,665.00 to $4,882.00 | Range 41 | Steps A - M

Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications for Program Coordinator:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Two or more years of full-time experience working with student programs, student records, creating and maintaining confidential records; or equivalent experience.

Required Qualifications for Program Assistant:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of full-time clerical experience, which includes with student programs, student records, creating and maintaining confidential records; OR Equivalent education/experience.

Required Qualifications for All Applicants:

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications.

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform work with high level of accuracy and efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications for All Applicants:

  • Experience working with graduate student records.

  • Experience working in a higher education environment.

  • More than two-years of full-time experience working with students in a higher education environment.

  • Ability to interpret and apply rules and processes.

  • Familiar with WSU policies, procedures and systems.
