Department Summary

The Molecular Lab Research & Early Development team is seeking motivated students for an immersive intern program focused on developing molecular assays for infectious diseases. Our team comprises experts in molecular biology and microbiology dedicated to developing novel diagnostic assays to address current unmet medical needs.

Interns will benefit from hands-on mentorship within our world-renowned organization. We are dedicated to guiding students through all aspects of molecular qPCR assays, from laboratory work at the bench to understanding the clinical relevance. We provide the expertise and support necessary for students to launch their future careers, whether their goal is to pursue research on industry or gain more scientific technical knowledge.

This internship position is located in Pleasanton, on-site.  

The Opportunity

  • This is a wet-lab based summer internship requiring hands-on bench research experience. 

  • Responsibilities include accurate, consistent, and prompt recording of experimental methods, materials, and results in electronic lab notebooks, data analysis, results evaluation, and planning next steps based on integrated findings and project goals. 

  • The role involves performing supervised experiments following specific protocols, preparing samples and reagents, and maintaining detailed logs. 

  • The intern will present findings at group/departmental meetings, potentially assist in preparing reports/presentations/manuscripts, attend team meetings, present a poster at a symposium, collaborate with staff and other interns, actively learn new techniques, and adhere to all lab safety rules.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must have attained a Master's Degree.

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field. 

Required Skills: 

  • Technical understanding and laboratory experience is required in: biological sample handling, nucleic acid purification, amplification, detection, and sequencing.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Experience with molecular methods including qPCR, ddPCR, and sequencing are preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with qPCR is highly desired, as the assigned project will have activities for the development of PCR-based assays.

  • Experience with growing and manipulating BSL-2 bacteria is a plus.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of  California is $40.00-$46.00 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
