The Legal and Compliance Department ensures that Roche operates within the boundaries of laws, regulations, and ethical standards. We protect Roche's interests and reputation by providing creative and business-focused legal advice, drafting and reviewing contracts, managing litigation, and addressing compliance issues. We also collaborate with other departments to develop and implement policies and procedures that promote ethical business behavior, patient safety, data privacy, and transparency, while maximizing the value of our intellectual property. We play a vital role in maintaining the company's integrity and freedom to operate.
The Opportunity:
As a Legal Summer Student, you will gain hands-on experience working directly with in-house counsel on a variety of matters. Your responsibilities will include:
Legal Research & Analysis: assisting Legal and Compliance with ad-hoc projects, including legal research projects to support business objectives.
Contract Management: assisting Contracts Management with contract drafting, review, and related activities.
Compliance Initiatives: monitoring and reporting on adherence to business processes and working on legal and compliance awareness-building projects.
Policy Development: working with Legal and Compliance teams to create and update policies, training, and guidance documents (including internal websites).
Who You Are:
We are looking for a driven and curious future legal professional who is interested in biotechnology, healthcare, and/or business (including business ethics).
You are currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB program at a Canadian university, with the successful completion of the first (1L) or second (2L) year of study by May 2026.
You have a demonstrated interest in business law, health law, intellectual property, privacy, or corporate ethics.
Strong legal research and writing abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
You are self-motivated and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
Leadership skills (e.g., in student organizations, legal clinics, moot courts, sports organizations, etc.) or relevant prior work experience are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
